Help me find a ZT CDTI!
Discussion
Hi Giys,
I'm on he look out for a late pre-facelift MG ZT CDTI in either Blue, red, black or X-power grey. Needs to be a manual, saloon and under £3K. Mileage not that important. They seem to be fairly scarce so if anyone knows of one for sale in the south or south east it would be most appreciated.
I keep my eye on AT, eBay and here but they're all estates, autos or too damn far away!

Nice one - worth getting a synergy box from RoverRon and/or remap + intake mod:

Well chuffed. Does the job as a daily superbly. Wafts along, returns good MPG, comfy as hell inside, plenty of toys and actually handles the twisties really well.

It is indeed, paid £2,250 for it with 12 months tickets and 6 months tax. I averaged 45mpg on the way home last night from picking it up which was mostly motorway and I had my foot down a fair bit. I would expect late 40's early 50's to be my average if I drive it sensibly. It's a pity these never came with a 6 speed.

So I thought after 2 days I better write up a proper appraisal of the new beast.
I'm well impressed with it. The quality of finish is not quite up with the VAG output of the same vintage with regards to plastic quality. The upper stuff and leather is all soft touch and really nice, all the cup holders and cubby holes feel good when shut but when you open them, although they are well damped you can feel the plastic behind it all is a bit flimsy. That said, it wears it's mileage and it's age much better than my Dad's old Boras, nothing looks worn out or gone shiny despite the 9 years and 111K. The only real wear shows on the seats where the alcantara has ruffled up somewhat. The doors, boot and bonnet all shut with a germanic thunk as well and there is not one single rattle or squeak from the interior. The seats are really comfortable, supportive and keep you planted when you chuck it about. The driving position is also excellent and the interior space is well thought out and HUGE!
Driving it is an eye opening experience as it is rather a large beast, biggest car I have ever owned including the old VW T25 van. Out on the road it's 135bhp is not a lot when it's hauling around 1500kgs of car but the torque is enough to make reasonable progress. By modern standards for a 2.0 diesel it's quite slow but it is very refined and surprisingly quite (Which reminds mine, road and engine noise in the cabin is almost non existent). Gear shift feels a little vague compared to the mx5 but that's hardly surprising. The steering is really sharp and there is surprisng amounts of feedback when pushing on, but feels stable and planted at speed on the motorway. This leads me nicely onto the suspension and handling. This is where I am most impressed. It rides undulations brilliantly and while it does feel 'sporty' and a little stiff it's not harsh or crashy. When throwing through a series of tight bends it feels nimble, well planted and like it wants you to push a bit harder, it's handling is really impressive for it's size and weight. Then when you're cruising along the motorway it'll happily waft along in the fast lane at speed quitely and sedately with the minimum of fuss.
When I decided to buy one of these it was because they are cheap and ticked all the boxes for what I need from a daily for work. I've been genuinely surprised at how good a car it is to drive and how well screwed together it is. It seems a shame that MGR's demise came at a time when it was building probably the best car it ever had. Having driven Passats and Golfs of a similar age, I have to say I would choose one of these over the equivalent VAG offering even if money was no object. It's that good!
The only downside is the constant ribbing about MGR going bust and the inevitable Head gasket comments. A small price to pay.

Glad you like it.I bought a 28K mile 2001 Rover 75 2.5 V6 Connie S.E,30 months ago for 2300 quid. I've doubled the mileage in that time, it's wafted me everywhere in cruise controlled,air-conned,leather seated comfort and it's cost me the grand sum of a service and one £150 repair. Was meant to be a throwaway car, but now it's a keeper unless I swap for a diesel as my mileage is likely to increase.I could have spent 20 grand and not had anything better.
Fantastic, characterful cars, and a hell of a lot of ignorance about them.
Have a look on here. www.the75andztclub.co.uk very helful friendly bunch.

Lovely looking car. I had an estate in X-Power grey from new for 3 years and really enjoyed it. Never got better than 36mpg and that was a lot of motorway miles. Found it a little under powered but it handled very well and was a quick A-B car. Shame BMW never put the 150bhp engine in it. Fuel pump went in the end so I sold it. MAFs are a weak point and mine went twice but it was very reliable.
Welcome to ZT ownership. So many simply don't realise just how well put together these cars are, and how well they handle. That's why they are a bargain! You car looks particularly nice, especially after the detail!
For the fuel economy, the onboard computer isn't that reliable when it comes to mpg. Don't trust it! Do a brim-to-brim check to see your actual consumption.
Oh, and if you think it performs well now, spend £200 on a RoverRon box. Completely transforms the car's power delivery, and gives you around 20 extra horses (and a bunch of extra torque too!)
Happy motoring!

inevitable Head gasket comments.
Not an issue for you though, just tell them the engine is the bmw diesel and its an excellent engine.
I see you have no fuel burning heater, get one installed and come winter you can get a remote control for and then get in a hot car with all the frost gone
Love my ztt cdti and all the extras, very good value for money

I had to switch from phone to laptop to comment on this car. Saw it at POL and still remember it now - stunning.
You've really done her proud - and if you ever need some more poke from the BMW diesel it's really not hard to get some real grunt.
A few months ago I was a noobie to the 75 scene, but I needed a cheap CDTi Tourer for my business. Picked up a 75 Connie CDTi (135) and although I liked the car, it just wasn't quick enough for me.
I've now got my head around the engine, and have the following modifications:
- Remap
- Synergy II tuning box
- EGR bypass
- Stainless steel turbo-back exhaust with no catalytic converter
- Boost up to 20psi
- Air intake derestriction
She really, really shifts now. Last dyno I had over 300lb/ft of torque, and 160bhp. Reckon I'm at about 180-190bhp now.
All in all, the modifications cost around £600.
Highly recommended, it's like a different car! Scares the local boy racers.
