Usual places pistonheads ebay autotrader etc. Don't buy unseen and don't be too picky, for £2k it won't be perfect. Rust is easy to check for. (rear spring hangers, inner and outer sills front and rear footplates, b post, wings, doors, foor pan so everywhere really) If your not confident, take someone with you for a 2nd opinion. Great fun and easy to work on. Your budget will go further on a RB 1500, but with care you may just get a 1275 (this would be my choice) which you can tidy up and improve.

Which area are you in? Someone on here or MG BBS may be able to take a look at it for you, a friendly bunch.

Worth contacting your local MG owners' club - they'll know of cars for sale in the area and even if a car you find isn't a members, there's a chance that they'll know it anyway from a previous owner or a garage that looks after it. They often run their own classifieds section too.

As said above, you'll get more car for your money if you go for a rubber bumper 1500 version, but I only ever had a soft spot for a round wheel arch 1275 myself.

Shame you can't stretch to a bit more and get yourself a rubber bumper B - they're a lot more usuable on things like motorways due to the overdrive unit giving higher gearing (awaits Nigel's 'wrath'!) wink

alfa you forget I used to own two Bs, one with rubber bumpers and one BGT with overdrive smile

for a reasonable Spridget at £2k it's a rubber bumper, not a rust heap but not 100% rust free

wildoliver might have something to offer

seems like OP being in the car busines(?) is a little fixated on sale price(?) and possibly expects to spend little on the car run it for summer and sell for a 'profit' later(?)

loads and loads of info on this PH forum and other PH forums giving info on Midgets just Search with the relevant words

If you see one and it's not too far from me (Kenilworth, Warwickshire) I would be happy to help.

to save boring everyone here again my ususal advice to potential and new owners post is in this thread - http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

a Midget in reasonable condition should be a better car than you might imagine but a poor one will be a PITA

even if you think you know about Midgets I still strongly suggest buying the Driver's Handbook before even looking at a car (the book that would be with the car when the car was new) Ref: 0058 - http://www.mgocshop.co.uk/catalog/Online_Catalogue...

there are differences in the Midget 1500 (still called Mk3) from 1975-80, very few major differences though

if you want to know the outcome of Druid's Spridget search see http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

good luck

at £2,000 for (this?) summers fun you'd hope a 1500

I don't know Higel. Plenty of rubbish out their but with care and some judicious haggling you could get a solid 1275 RWA that needs tidying and a lttle work. You never know, do a reasonable job and a small profit may be made yes (but you would have to regard this as a bonus)

when profit enters cars at this level cost and corners tend to be cut, a car that was previously neglected through ignorance or choice now gets considered neglect proportional to profit wanted

not always the case I know but very, very often it is

to save me looking an idiot, well more than usual, could you post a link to the advert

For insurance try Peter Best – over 30 years old MG office hours only but if you fill in the box at the bottom of their Home page they’ll ring you (they might be busy with lots of new under 25 business) - http://www.peterjamesinsurance.co.uk/

Ask about Unlimited Mileage, mine was no extra charge

Looks nice enjoy.

Consumables will be available at your local motorfactor. MGOC stock everything else you need. It's not everyones favorite supplier but bits arrive the next day, postal charges are reasonable and returns are sorted promptly. The guys on the phone have plenty of know-how. You will find better availbilty of parts than most moderns.

I use Footman James for the insurance and include (for peace of mind) European roadside assistance.

surely that's already in with the policy, it is with Peter Best, plus loads of other bits, easy Agreed Valuation, no garage, drive another car third party, mods, unlimted mileage, legal cover, UK and European breakdown cover, named drivers, main vehicle, commuting - all at very reasonable price

I can't be doing with these policies where the car has to be locked away in a garage by night fall and only enough mileage to get you to MoTs and repairs for hardly any less price
