Hi All,

I am looking at a very nice MG ZS V6 on 01 plate with 50k. Do these suffer from HGF too like the 4 cylinder models or should I be ok? A friend had a 2.5 V6 Freelander which had HGF (same engine?).

Thanks

Hi, Had my ZS180 for four years, and now my daughter has it, no problems at all, although it had a new induction plenum assembly put on when I bought it. As far as I am aware head gaskets are not a problem with them, mine certainly wasn't. It's the viz stuff that tend to go, nasty rattle at the top end and loss of power which you won't notice if they've been failing over a long period.. Absolutely brilliant car though, probably one of the best handling/best roadholding front wheel cars out there... given its design age....The MG boys did a great job with the suspension...

ETA: Make sure the belts have been changed, there's three of them and cost of getting them done can be anywhere between 700 and a thousand quid depending on where you go. From memory it's 6 years or 90,000 miles (do check though), which means your 50k car should have had them done around 2007..

They don't suffer from HGF, certainly not more than any other car. It is the same engine in the land rover.

Thanks for the reassurance. Is it the KV6 (iirc)? If it is the same as in the Freelander and the one in my friend's blew.......

I was reading a comparison recently of Frontera vs Freelander, and it said that the early Freelanders suffered from HGF due to an inadequate cooling system where even a small loss of fluid would cause the engine to overheat with subsequent HGF. Hope this helps.

Ta. Guy says no evidence of belts being changed which is a £500 apparently.

In the K-series, not the KV6 i'd have thought...

At least £500. Probably more like £600-£700.
