Somehow for whatever reason I have never heard or seen one of these, am I alone? My god what a gorgeous looking car! My mouth was wide open! I don't know why either, small open top cars/roadsters like this new or old have never done anything for me, always thought big saloons with matching big engines were my bag..

I realise there are many, many other cars out there with old tech beneath there bodies but I love the fact the RV8 is basically an updated version of the older varient. If wiki is to be believed even doors and bootlid are the same. I know they are primitive in many ways but still.. very much a good looking car.

Anyone here have an personal experience with them? What is the general opinion on them?

where have you been smile

yes it's a B roadster with RV8 engine, vast majority went to Japan (ones with air-con holes) with few remaining in UK (spot/fog? light in holes), IIRC it was intended that 2,000 went to Japan and 500 for UK but I don't think they either made them all or sold them all, probably because they were up against the TVR chimearas at (nearly) same price

most are green and UK with MGR reg plates and most are overpriced now - still a nice car

I know one that's actually been used yikes on tours, is a (red) Japan model (as most are and have air con) and it's for sale if you are seriously interested in buying one

I drove a UK one when they first came out, well as the MG garage owner said I might as well as I'd help pay for a lot of it, bit "tart's handbag" uphostery compared to original B but still nice

at the time I had a "rubber bumper" B roadster with a RV8 engine hence the reason for my contribution to its purchase

ETA smilie to set correct tone

So they actually came with MGR plates? Seen one for sale (private not trade) saying came with private plate independently valued at just under a bag of sand.

(sadly not looking to purchase not very practical with 2 kids and a double buggy! would love one all the same though)

well most I can remember seeing have had MGR plates from way back when

I think they were mainly designed for B owners who were and still are mostly elderly of mind or body or both smile

hence most will have rediculously low mileage, especially considering their age

I've no fear of upsetting most B owners as they're still be having their afternoon nap biglaugh

I AINT NAPPING, (I've been up for at least an hour) hehe

I was at Zed 10 at Duxford at the weekend, mostly modern Z's but a few of us in B's and a variety of colours of RV8's. A decent one is now about 14K with others around 10K.

that's not counting BGT owners

Tony what size, make, model tyres?

£10-14K well over priced - but the old boys have all the money smile

Thought you might mention those again, Dunlop Sport tyres 185/65's. Car sits a fraction lower and their a little wider than what I had on previously. Car looks better from the rear.
Considering it was running well on the old Dunlops that were from.... well they were very old having worked out the date code! It ran fine on Sunday, I think the speedo will read about 2mph over at 70mph, so a bit less likely to be caught speeding, unless I'm doing that through a 50 zone! tongue out

yeah the sizes aren't exact I remember having two difference makes of the same size tyre and you could see one was slightly lower than the other

shall I give you a few links that tell you that the tyres need to be used to stop them aging faster :P

I've found an extra 2 psi over the Handbook works fine for me, any more and I can't fully enjoy the back roads I like without the hood frame vibrating under the cover

When we took one of the old 165's off the car and lined it up next to a couple of new ones, height-wise it was spot on with a 185/70 and about 3/8 inch higher than the 185/65's.
Will check the psi and see what they're reading.

I'm happy with the tyres, but now I want 15inch wheels! biggrin

no you don't

by same size I meant one make of say 165/70 against another make of 165/70 and one being slightly lower than the other

(actually I think it was something like 225/55 - 15" - but not on a BGT)

Yep, I've got one and have imported and worked on quite a few. My father collects them too. A nice modern day B.
