I think that is an overflow for the carbs. Should the carb float fail, you'll then see plenty of petrol flooding out of it, been there, done that!! smile

Probably the overflow pipe without clip

I was going to suggest photos on your other thread so I might as well put it here as it will also help

It would help if you are able to post good quality photos of the engine, one of each of the following;
square on from the left for left side view
from the left standing close to the windscreen end point towards the front
standing in front of thread grille taking the front view
square on from the right for right side view
from the right standing close to the windscreen end point towards the front

got other stuff for your other thread when you're ready if you want, above photos are for there really

It is indeed the overflow.

Of course if you had the original owners handbook then problems like this wouldn't occur wink

I think this jokes maybe run it's course now!

It's all in jest, mainly because your comments are grounded in sense. The factory manuals are streets ahead of any others, that little owners book is really quite interesting as it details some bits of the cars that are sometimes not even there, how many MGBs are running round without seatbelt hooks? Fantastic detail that is missing from many cars and you wouldn't know if you haven't had a B before.

On the same note I'm working on my C at the moment and because a Haynes isn't available automatically using the factory manual, blown away by the detail in it, I do have a B one too but never even opened it, I just use the Haynes for torque settings etc. Mainly as I don't mind getting dirty finger prints on the book of lies. I might actually start referring to the factory B manual too as it really does have some useful chapters.

no worries I'm all for a bit of micky taking - even when it's against me (good job really as I normally get so much)

I've put on another forum (about g/box, r/axle oil) much info in books and on t'web is not always correct or accurate

Haynes is not the only offender and I think another publication copies Haynes mistakes, even the factory manuals can have mistakes so I'm told, I did find one mistake in the (factory) reprint of the Midget Parts Catalogue it was only a small one and I can't remember it but even I can spot some in the Haynes

Not found any in my Midget Mk3 owners Handbook tho' smile

Interesting email you sent, I'd have replied to it but my emails being gay at the moment.

There's always errors, the C manual has several, but at least you get the impression they have actually seen the car unlike a haynes!
