Any one got an oil cooler pipe knocking around?
Discussion
Hello there!
Just went for a, eh'hem, spirited run in the B GT the shops so I could get back into for the F1 qualifying and all was running nicely. However on returning to the car from my last stop and I seemed to have parked right over a pretty decent oil leak. Nursed the car home watching the pressure gauge (flapping between 40 and nil psi so there was something still in it but not a lot!) and got back with no problems.
After mopping up the mess (which was all the way from oil cooler to baulk head!) and putting in some new oil, on running the engine, it became clear that the oil filter to cooler feed pipe has chafed on the inner wing and, in the words of SWMBO's Dad, split it's kipper.
Annoyingly the B is my daily driver, so I would really like to try to fix this over the weekend so I can get to work next week.
If there is anyone in the Blackpool area who might have an oil cooler pipe cluttering up your garage you'd be willing to sell, please let me know!
Cheers,
David

Cheers Na, you're right all I could hear were the voices in my own head!
I have not got the reprint manual you know. Do you want to tell me about it?
I will post on there too. Already put it up on MGCC but it's like a morgue there as well. Called all the local shoppies but no luck.
One guy suggested wrapping it in leccy tape! Proper dodgey. I'll most likely buy some braided ones off ebay and tape it until they arrive.
LOL
DM.

lots of shows to get the B MOT'd and polished up for could be on this weekend
the oil and pressure puts an end to lots of the usual bodges, oversleeving with a larger hose and couple of jubilee clips migh slow the loss down a bit and keep the mess to one area
self flush cleaning and conditioning engine oil treatment - another adaption for you
A BGTV8 had and expensive engine rebuild and was taken from Scotland to wales on one of our club's tours Sporting Bears got the same problem as yours and had to be RELAY'd back, the normally fiesty lady owner must have been so worn down by the potential complete engine disaster that she only werily responsed to my "didn't you check it was fully secured before you came away"
I was expecting swearing at the very least

Undo the remaining hose from the cooler and attach to the other union (either filter head or block connector) it will function as per the US spec cars with just a bypass hose.
I don't run an oil cooler on my B for this very reason, just has the factory metal bypass pipe. Never once suffered from excess heat breaking the oil down.

There you go again with that heresy
Cars are falling apart all over the forum and I don’t have the technical knowledge or terminology to give some enough confidence for most to follow anything I put - even the stuff I get right
Plus possibly they think at the end I’ll say “well I did try to tell you”, as if
I’ve not upset anyone for a couple of hours
DM's got a cracking car

Dammit I'm not going to bypass the oil cooler, it'll screw-up the weight distribution... unless I leave it full of oil of course.
I've wrapped the oil pipe up in half a reel of bright blue electrical tape and ordered a new set from my favourites, MG Hive. It's not totally split, it just a knick so it should hold. Blue because that way people will constantly ask why so I'll fix it because it'll annoy me.;)
Seems to be fine for now but I'll take it easy until the new bits turns up.
That done I whipped off the bonnet and black Hammerited the heater box, radiator mount and black hole grille in the sunshine.
If its sunny tomorrow I'll do the cart springs and rear silencer and polish up the tail pipe.
