Hi there, I have always been a Morgan lover, living 15 miles from the factory and going there on work experience, and seeing there cars driving around, but I was just wondering if anyone on here could help me tell the differences between S1/S2/S3 and S4 Aeros and how to tell which is which. Here are a few pictures I've taken for possible reference points.

Thanks for any help.
Matt.

Matt

The last one is a series 2 first owned by aeroman and then me. It's my ugly mug driving. We did have a conversation a few years back while you were taking pictures at NEC Classic Car Show while I was trying to get back in after a sporting bears run.

The series 1 has a narrower cockpit than the S2, the other clue is a higher boot on the s2, the s1 is fairly flat for want a better desciption. Both these cars have the filler caps located centrally and have theVdub headlight and front indicators.

s3 has mini lights and internally has a parcel shelf and I believe a central fuel filler.

The s4 with has the revised 4.8 engine, the front has been modified and as s4 owners will tell you it has a lower sump. The rear is different in that the fuel filler cap is now flush ( think this happened on the s4 ), also the car lost it's parcel shelf as the fuel tank was moved for the US market.

I'm sure someone else will correct any mistakes I've made.

Have fun with your work experience

PS try post on www.talkmorgan.com I'm sure one of the anoraks will provide the answer. wink

As an anorak...
Series 1 200 to 2004/5 narrow body, low roofline vw beetle lights 2 windscreen wipers central fuel filler. Dash half width. 4.4 286 bhp BMW v8.
Series 1 gtn 2005 - 11 made same as above with carbon hard top, in gtn blue silver wings alpina engine, sidepipes
Series 2 2005 full width dash central fuel filler wide body 3 wipers vw beetle headlights. 4.4 BMW v8 325bhp
Series 3 2006/7 as series 2 with mini headlights and some engineering refinements.
Series 4 2008-2010 mini headlights, flush fuel filler 4.8 BMW v8 375bhp, redesigned interior (air vents) and standard handbrake rather than traditional fly off brake. Additional vents in front of bonnet panels for cooling larger engine. 3 wipers.

Prob lots more but these are main differences.

Hi

Simply going by what I can see in the pictures:

Pic 1 - series 3
Pic 2 - series 1
Pic 3 - series 3
Pic 4 - series 1
Pic 5 - series 4
Pic 6 - kit car built by a guy in Essex - looks convincing.

Also on the S3! wink

Series 3 and 4 share a revised dashboard. Only major difference on the inside, aside from the parcel shelf, is the handbrake - why they put a conventional one on the S4 is beyond me! curse

I preferred the fly handbrake but I believe the change was as a result of wanting a handbrake that worked, the traditional handbrake means you also lose somewhere to place your arm.

The redesigned centre lower dash on te s4 meant a better handbrake, and a far better resolved set of air vents than on previous models. The s2 and 3 I gerunds and dash are th same and work on, but the vents are under the dash hidden away and poorly enclosed meaning that air heated or cooled goes everywhere rather an where you point it...

Not a big deal, but I found the s4 comfortable touring in Italy with temps over 40c where you needed he roof up. In my s2 that would have been considerably less comfy...

I prefer the handbrake where it is now confused

I miss the trinkets tray and the storage behind the seats but the interior is far more resolved on S4

Boshly, I have a trinket tray in my series 4. It is more of an iPhone/Blackberry tray because it is smaller than the ones on the earlier models.

I would prefer they put the handbrake on the side like my Ferrari (which also works a bit like the old fly off handbrake) as I never use it anyway. smile

Oi Boshers, there's at least two of us on here that owned and liked that Aero, one of the very rare Series II's to boot. cool

Obviously his comment was aimed at you as the first owner so I'd have a word with him next time you see him.

Might explain why I was often asked what type of kit it was wink
