Hi,

After a long absence from Morgan ownership I'm considering the purchase of a Morgan Plus 4, about 18 years old. What would I expect to pay for a car with around 30/40K miles in apparent good condition. I'm always surprised how expensive Morgans are to buy but presume they still retain their value if well kept.

The car I'm looking at is the later Rover 2.0 litre with the wider body and has leather and mohair hood & tonneau. I know nothing about this engine as my previous Morgans had Ford crossflow and Rover V8 power. I would really like a Plus 8, about 20 years old but think they will be out of my budget. Would I be disappointed with the Plus 4 with about 148 bhp? I know later Plus 4's have a Ford engine but again these will probably be too expensive for me to justify, for what would be a fun summer car.

Thanks.

Hi paul, having searched for my first morgan, it certainly took a while to find the right car with the right combination, coulour, spec & Engine etc, I have just bought a 4/4 lowline, 1.6 CVH which is in fantastic condition, this was one of the main reasons for buying her, I myself was very concerned regarding the small engine capacity as my current drive is a TYR Griff with a 4.3 V8, must say after a few days of ownership of the 4/4 performance is far better than I imagined, my advice is to spend as much as your budget allows. I hired a +4, 2.0ltr Duratec from the factory November last year, performance was reasonably good, however, V8 would be the way to go if I had budget too.

Hi,

Thanks for that. Thats really funny - I had a TVR Griffith 500 for a couple of years a few years back but sold it when I got married! So I know what you mean about the V8 performance kick. The TVR is certainly faster than a +8 in a straight line but did'nt really light my fire in other ways. They are certainly much cheaper than a Morgan and look fabulous though. I'm just a bit worried that the +4 might be a bit of a let down. I've heard about someone in the area with a Rover engined +4 so I think it might be a good idea to have a drive in his car before spending any money. +8's prices at the moment though are going through the roof so I'm not sure they are an option for me anyway.
