Hi

This is my first post on the Morgan forum - I have toyed with the idea of a Morgan for many years, I am thinking of changing the 911 in the next 12-18 months so thought it might be time to look into the brand more seriously.

My "local" dealer is Lifes in Southport, they look good on their website but I just wondered if anyone had any practical experience of them? Equally, are there any other dealers who you would recommend - I am based in Lancashire just north of Preston.

On a more general basis, as an "outsider" to the brand, the pricing of second hand cars seems to be something of a mystery (at first glance seeming to bear little relation to age, mileage, model etc) although I imagine this will become clearer when i do my research!

Cheers

Phil

I bought my 4/4 from them 18 months ago, I would recommend them highly, they have a good reputation in the morgan world, they are the oldest morgan dealer in the world!

generally morgans hold value pretty well, eg I bought my 1988 car for the same price it was sold new for. I was told recently that trads like mine probably appreciate by a couple of percent annually.

Phil, take a look on www.talkmorgan.com - this is a great resource for people looking to buy, or who already own, a Morgan sports car.

I purchased my +8 new via Lifes and found them excellent. Dave Randall the owner is very approachable. Prices will depend which model you are looking for. Some like the S1 Aero and the +8 are not easy to get hold of and are on the increase, also prices of second hand cars will depend on how many bits have been added since new with owners trying to recoup some of their outlay on expensive additions!

Life's have been around for a very long time Since Douglass's closed they are, as has been said, the oldest- established Morgan dealer of all. Dave Randall is very helpful and has a good name as a straight dealer.

I'm going to confine my commnets to the 'trads' ie classic Morgans because for purely personal and subjective reasons, I'm not much of an Aero fan. if you want to know about Aeros, the the TalkMorgan site is your best port of call

I'd echo the comments about not buying a 'trad' from new. Let someone else take the burden of having done the initial 'sorting' ( because they do need it) plus having it specc'd up.

If you have long M- way or continental type road driving in mind, don't go for a 4/4 Consider a Plus 4 or a Roadster.
Also, both of these have more( the Roadster considerably more!) torque than the 4/4

The Plus 8 is a truly iconic car but prices have just gone silly and daft prices are being asked for very ordinary examples

In terms of other dealers in the North of England, you have John MacDonald in Lanchester, County Durham (again, old established and a good reputation.) A bit further South you have Phil Ledgerwood near Shorpe and also John Gill. I have had no personal dealings with Phil L but have heard generally good feedback about him.
Another idea might be to look over the border and talk to Thompson and Potter or Russel Patterson

Thanks for all the feedback, I need now to begin my research and go and look at a few cars to fully get my head round the variations!

Hi there. Got mine new from Lifes on 1 March last year. Dave great guy etc but service like a 50s dealer. I had a factory created fault and there was little chance of getting it picked up. I had to get a guy to take it up to Southport and then it was taken back to the factory. So a little sour tasting. BUT, I have had lots nice cars and this has been one of the best.

Blame MMC not Life's. The Factory won't build in an 'return to themselves for fault finding'( even if provably Factory originating) so the dealers have to do the best with what they have got of the situation
If you want to check this out, the MMC dealer agreement is very clear about it, so people like Dave R at Life's really are beteen a rock and a hard place

Agree and get the point, but had just paid a large wedge of cash a few days before, and there was no chance of meeting me half way, let alone a pick up from home. Not a great service. A week or so later and a few hundred miles on the clock the loose connection was sorted via Southport and then Malvern. Good job it wasn't Stuttgart...

I bought a new traditional Morgan +4 in 2006 from John Gill's in Bedale, North Yorkshire, they were very helpful but I believe they are no longer Morgan dealers, the signage has been removed and they are no longer mentioned on the Morgan website., however they did have an immaculate 2006 4/4 in Royal Ivory in the showroom last week when I was passing.

Re Life's they have an excellent reputation,... Bauer Millett in Deansgate Manchester were authorised dealers about ten years ago, but that only lasted a couple of years for some reason.

I was thinking of that car too but, in the end, went for buying from a local dealer.

It did look very nice.
