The final photo in this article on the Coventry Telegraph's website is of my 10 year old son in a Morgan at last weekend's Coventry Festival of Motoring.

The back story is that I own a Caterham and we were supposed to be attending the event in that with a bunch of people from the Lotus 7 Club. My car was out of action due to RTA damage, so a good friend loaned me his Morgan 4/4.

As we were interlopers in a Morgan amongst the Caterhams we decided that we had better go in disguise.

The Morgan drew a lot of attention - both my son and I really enjoyed our first ride in one; a much more relaxed cruising experience than a Caterham...

Two completely different animals - my son used to have an R300 and I have a +8, the +8 is quick but not up to catching the Caterham, mind you we had some fun trying. Having driven both though I much prefer the Morgan, as you say a much more relaxed, comfortable drive - maybe its my age!!!!

I just bought a 4/4.
I absolutely love driving it. My wife is also getting to like it more and more
I wonder if thats because I take her out for lunch/evening trips etc?
My Morgan is not a high spec - Ford 1600 efi engine - but its great to drive. Maybe next year a Plus4 or Pus 8?
Hmmm the V6 looks good!

Interesting!

I too have just made the switch to a Morgan. Having previously had a 330bhp turbo charged JPE Caterham and then a TVR Griffith, I'm now just about to collect a 1988 Plus 8 with a 4.5 litre John Eales engine.

Whilst the Caterham was sensational in terms of performance, it became quite tiresome to own/drive as the conditions had to be "just so", otherwise it was a pain.

The TVR was also fab, a rare 4.5 big valve, awesome sound and a great drive but i never really "got it" some how.

The morgan really appeals as I can fully maintain it myself, it looks good and it's very versatile. There are few cars that can be driven to a restaurant in the evening, genuinely ued to quite good effect on a track day and also can take in a European holiday. Add in the fact that they look lovely, don't depreciate and are not expensive to repair and they start to make an awful lot of sense.

Hope my ownership lives up to expectations!

Shouldn't be a problem, had my +8 eight years now and enjoyed every minute, not just a car but a social thing as well. The owners club, MSCC , are a great bunch of people.

Hello Martin,

She's Back! Great job by Arch and Millwood.

Got two new front tyres and an MOT last week, so all is good to go - hope to be on that Sossige Run, so will see you there!

I know it's not the sort of thing that a Caterham driver should admit to, but I did enjoy a waft along in the Morgan - a very different open top driving experience. The nutter that is my Morgan owning friend has said that he wants to come along in the Caterham to the forthcoming Pistonheads Sunday Service at Silverstone. Two fat blokes in a half-hooded Caterham; the last time we tried that our attempt to disembark looked like a hippo giving birth to twins. A Morgan is much more civised in that regard!
