Hi all, im getting married next year and am hoping to have a Morgan Aero 8 as my wedding car cloud9

One question I have, is about the sound of that savage V8, I won't be able to be picky, but which Aero sounds best, side exit pipes? Or rear exit?

Many Thanks..

Tony smile

Sidepipes are mandatory for a good noise. Generally means you're looking for a Series II or later as very few Series 1's have sidepipes - it was an aftermarket conversion, or you'll need one of the 11 GTN's...

i am afraid all my aero friends are speaking out of the wrong exit..aero series 1 with after market librand pipes - coming out of the back, rumble big grrrr rumble and all your wedding guests will love it.

I have had both side pipes and librands rear exits. The sides do have a brutal sound when revved hard but the actual sound is nicer from the Librand quads. can't comment on stock rear exits.

As a side topic, loud side exits effectively got Morgan kicked out of the GT3 race series in Portugal today. I was most disapointed as it was a long drive to the algarve to watch one lap.

There is more to the story but the FIA seem to be a bunch of incompetents.

Outrageous!
How can they ban a race car for being noisy?
And why cant the team baffle it to get it in the race?

It is quite loud though!!!

I agree with you, but then perhaps we're biased.

Well having spent over 20,000 miles with side pipes on my series 2 I have just returned from a 2000 mile drive in a series 4 with the librand sports exhaust.

My opinion is therefore:
.
.
.
.
.
.
It's all down to personal choice biggrin

Rear sports produce a nice loud rumble, most of the time, sides are quiet on tick-over or gentle cruise but will spit bang and growl on overrun (as does the sports) and will throb and scream like a spitfire on acceleration (the plane not the car!).

I personally, will always choose side-exits as to me the sports 'rumble' sounds like many other V8 rumbles (and not quite as nice as the Nascar type noise from my Mustang) but the side-pipes sound distinctive and British and Morgan-like (now?) and take me back to the good old 'Bentley Boys' type experience.

Finally, any Aero is an experience (as is any Morgan TBH) so whatever you end up with I'm sure you will love smile

Boshly, I thought you had more miles on your car! I just turned over 20,000 miles on my series 4 between Paris and Calais yesterday.

Hi Woolfie!
How's the car running?
That car with librands was about the loudest I've heard!
It was so quiet before I replaced the exhausts, and it completely changed the character of the car.
I definitely miss the car, the lotus I replaced it with is nowhere near as much fun, but at least it is quiet enough to go on track!

Hi mas3200...car is doing well. I did a big 1500 mile jaunt in it this summer and it went like a dream. The exhausts bring the character of the car out.

I might change next year after 3 years of ownership, but not decided as to what just yet. Options are: keep; Aero series 4; AM Vanquish S, AM DB9, Maserati Granturismo S. You can see i am getting old and knackered by thinking I need a grand tourer.

Glad to hear that you are able to track the lotus; i havent taken the aero onto the track, as I always seem to be working and not enough time for fun.
