Yesterday a Dealers' meeting took place at Malvern and the new Aero model was introduced.
I read on emog that it is a Targa derivative of the Aeromax. Price in UK 130,000 GBP. Aero 8 S IV production will be discontinued this year.
The MMC intend to offer the car on the USA market as well.

Do they have plans for a direct replacement for the Aero 8 or will the 130k targa be the only model.

If so they wil effectively remove the Aero range beyond most peoples means, which is a shame.

To refer to this new Morgan as a "Targa" is perhaps unkind and not accurate. It has a classic Targa-like removable section of its top..but would hard to compare to that Porsche otherwise.

The news they gave the dealers is that the new car will be the only "Aeroish" model offered by the end of the year..unless there are further developments to be announcements to be made with other trad models. (This is, after all, the Centenary year.)

I can appreciate the passions excited, but the decision makes good sense from many angles and was not unanticipated.

I hope it proves successful.

P.S. It could also be changed tomorrow.

Hi Lorne,

With "targa" I just wanted to avoid too many words to describe the new model.:-)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Targa top, targa for short, is a semi-convertible car body style with a removable roof section and a full width roll bar behind the seats. The rear window can be fixed or removable, making it a convertible-type vehicle. In common usage, any piece of metal or trim which rises up from the side of a car and continues in an uninterrupted line over the roof and down the other side may be called a targa band, targa bar or a wrapover band. Targa tops are different from T-tops, which have a solid, non-removable bar running between the top of the windscreen and the rear roll-bar.

I stand corrected Roderich. Thank you. That is a pretty accurate description.

A bit of a late reply...

I've got a feeling that BMW are phasing out their V8s in favour of their turbocharged straight six. (As used in the 135.) That's a little down on power, but significantly more economical.

I wonder if Morgan are going to go down this route. A lighter, more economical Aero 6 with some of BMW's Efficient Dynamics tricks (stop start, regeneration) would appeal. And Charles Morgan has made statements in the past about needing to be greener...
