I lived in Malvern for a number of years and played football for Morgans (we were called plus8biggrin), knew a number of people who worked at the factory and frequently got to look around the factory to see the cars being made. Nice place and a good traditional family run business.

... I've always liked Morgans, but they don't give you the same raw excitement that a TVR does bounce

There are a number of former TVR owners who have changed to Aero 8's who obviously don't agree with you. Have you ever driven an Aero 8, the brochure for the current car is here: http://www.morgan-motor.co.uk/sales/new_brochures/...

As you can see the relative performance figures for the Aero, compared with a TVR Tamora, are virtually the same, with the Morgan being a much less stressful drive. smile

Tamora / Aero

BHP 350 bhp / 367 bhp

Power/Weight 304 per ton / 312 per ton

Torque 290 ft/lb / 370 ft/lb

Weight 1150 kgs / 1175 kgs

Top Speed 160 mph / 170 mph

On all other measurements, including roadholding, reliability (BMW V8-power versus Speed Six frown ), build-quality, etc, etc, the Aero is head and shoulders above the Tamora.

I could go on, but I definitely know which I'd rather have and which is the easier one to run on the pocket. woohoo

Agree with Aeroman'comment yes

Re raw excitement...have you ever been in an Aero with sidepipes? The spitfire sound would be enough to give you a hard-on biggrinthumbup

I have a 4.0L Tamora which is about 380bhp+, with Nitrons and ACT air box, 0-60 in about 3.8s, and top speed over 160mph, which probably makes it slightly better than the Aero, and costs lesssmile

I would read this from top gear:

I don't remember them producing a 4.0L Tamora, but maybe in view of the NITRONS, etc, we are now comparing modified TVR's with standard Aero 8's. rolleyes

In this case, we would like to present our Aero candidate to the modified sportscar TVR and Morgan Aero 8 comparison:

As an ex. TVR Cerbera 4.5 LW RR (with extensive upgrades) owner I can say the Aero beats all TVR's I've experienced hands down even a Very Very well sorted Griff 500 LE.

Be careful icraigmy, this Pistonhead forum was long ago taken over by Aero owners. The forum is misnamed and would be more aptly called "Aero". The less than resounding success of the Aero has made their owners non-objective and extremely rude when challenged.

Do not try logic. You will only get attacked. Back off. They travel in a pack.

LOL you're so funny, that's pure Gold man!

You Can nock Morgans as long as you do it with a smile on your face and don't get all Forlorn about it. You may get a Labelle you don't deserve smile

Icraigmy, We are happy to talk to anyone about any car and debate the merits of our beloved wheels against any other. TVR's are a great marque and fit in nicely in particular with the Aero and it's owners. As with many TVR owners we are a bit eccentric but deep down, petrolheads through and through.

Don't listen too much to Bartruth he is just a bit grumpy sometimes and suffers a bit of an identity crisis now and again. If you are a motor mechanic however he will be able to have good discussion with you wink

Bring on the TVR vs Aero/Morgan debate

got to say I really like the look of the Aero from the front, and that colour scheme of matt bodywork paint and black shiny wings looks great. Pity about the bum though.

Which Bum? The AeroMax or the Aero 8?

I have to agree that the AeroMax rear is an acquired taste and it suits some colours at the rear better than others. The above picture is the best I've seen of the lighter coloured cars. I prefer the look of the darker reds and blacks, but have no rear pictures.

the Aeromax isnt bad - bit 1930 / 1940 America but sleek. The Aero is simply an ugly afterthough - IMO of course.

But then unless you are driving behind one and being held back (in a Lotus for example ;-) ) why worry?
