I've just sold mine. If you are wanting one mine was fabulous. It is the blue one at the Allon Wight main dealer. I was nearly in tears when I handed over the keys - it was the best car I've had!

I know - it was fantastic and I'm gutted it's gone. You could park it next to pretty much any other car - italian exotica included and it would get more attention due to its looks and noise!
After buying it I started getting into trackdays. It is a very quick car on the track - up there with porker RS's etc - there is certainly not much that could catch it on the straight.
Round corners it was exciting. It was very easy to lock up into them, and round them a lot of opposite lock had to be used. Most of the steering was done on the gas peddle.
Trackdays do throw up a few pebbles, especially at airfields, and I hated the stonechips. These are cars that you love and cherish - I waxed it pretty much after every outing, and have it resprayed which isn't cheap.
So I sold it because I wanted something more trackbased. I went for a lotus 2-11 which looks amazing and am picking it up next month hopefully.
I'm really sad to get rid of the mogadon though - it was the best car you could own.....

As a Lotus man i must congratulate you on the new car, THE sweetest handling car ever built by many accounts.
Understand what you're saying about cherishing a Morgan, I'm london based and the thought of the usual scrapes and dings on my potential aero8 worries me big time, but I can't let it dictate having a shit car, i'm only here for the money and if I'm not going to spend it on what i want then I shouldn't be here, catch22!

If you want a good one then please buy mine!!!! Its not on a sale or return. It had a full prep for any track day I did and has been so reliable. I keep looking at the photos on their website and wanting it back!

I've been told that the side ported exhaust is something to look for, what is your opinion on this Mark?

Hi guys smile

Mas3200 Nooo! Shame you've sold, but good luck with the new motor smile

As for the side ported exhaust :

It's generally not seen on the earlier S1 cars. These were made from 2002-2004. The last iteration (special run) of GTN's were S1 cars with side exhuast and the 4.6engine. (as seen on Top gear with Hammond driving - see youtube).

The S2 - 6" wider for the US market in the cabin and with the later 4.4 330bhp V8 (original S1 packs 286bhp) still with bog eyed lights was optional with a side pipe exhaust.

The S3 - SII with revised mini headlights can be specced with sidepipes or rear pipes.

The S1 is the lower cost option, and in my (biased!) opinion is the best looker with the lowest roofline, and sleekest profile. It doesn't give much away to the slightly porkier later models, and can be chipped to around 310-320bhp.

S1#s start above 30k.
SII's will probably be minimum 40k for a leggy one.
SII's are not going to save you much over buying a new one at 70k.

Regarding the exhaust notes:

1. Standard Exhaust - 2 rear pipes - circular.
It's ok, but quiet and restricts performance a little.

2. Sports exhaust (s1) - 2 rear oval pipes, deep V8 rumble, pops on the overrun, allegedly < 100db and fun fun fun - what I ahve fitted to mine.

3. SII sports pipes - double twin exit eexhuasts. Like the S1 sports exhaust, but less bass rumble.

4. Sidepipes - standard. Great noise, but no bass at all. Some prefer this sound as it's never intrusive and you get a good 'baaarp' noise when you floor it, but for me it's a bit weedy still.

5. Modified sidepipes - chaps on talkmorgan.co.uk have modified the side exits to get more of a rich tone, and seem to ahve succeeded.

Sidepipes look a little daft in one respect, as the back of the car looks somewhat bare and high in the air without them. Morgan are workign on a (cosmetic) diffuser to fill the gap, but no timescale on it's appearance for now.

It's possible to convert a non sidepipe car to sidepipes at any point, overall cost would probably be in the region of 2k.

If you're in london and want to check out an Aero, then drop me a mail.

Sorry about selling mine rich! You're not by any chance getting a lotus as well having gone from the 3200 to the aero as well?!
I thought you had the same exhausts as mine, but I had the quad pipes fitted. They sounded incredible always backfiring and popping. The 1st time they were tested they were nearly 105db, but they got a little quieter over the couple of years since and were 101db on the last test. It's really annoying cos some of the tracks up here have a 98db limit.
I reckon the side exits would be awesome, but must be even louder.
Can't stop thinking what I'm doing. My better half didn't speak to me for a week, but I didn't tell her what I was up to. Definitely in the dog house for a while! She keeps saying things like "can't believe youv'e swapped that prestige BMW 4.4 litre engine for a 1.8 toyota corrolla taxi"!

Wasn't planning to! Bit worried now though!

Interesting you note that yours got quieter - think mine has a little too. Not tried to get it on track recently.

Still plotting some mods - the fabricators who redesigned Aeromans side exit baffles liberated a deeper noise. It would appear that this idea could be taken further (like on the AMV8) and a valuve fitted. I'm thinking of perhaps a double side exit exhaust, switchable for low and high volume and optional flames biggrin

I haven't driven one yet, shortly to testdrive yours Mark.
What is your opinion on the standard of ergonomics in them? I'm 6'2", but I've no problem with the Elise, although I do look after my back somewhat after a couple of spinal injuries in earlier life.

I'm also 6'2" - height isn't an issue.
I guess my head does occasionally rub the headlining in the roof, but I tend to drive roof down as much as possible anyway.

You can have seats repadded etc at the factory for relatively little $$ so if you needed to sit a little lower it could easily be achieved...

Morgan ownership is very different to owning any other sort of car. The factory can do just about anything you desire if you have the time and the money (of course!)

In terms of your back I find that on long journeys I benefit from lower back support, so wedge a small cushion on the seat.

If you are looking for an Aero I would suggest popping into http://www.talkmorgan.co.uk/ubbthreads.php?ubb=pos... and saying hello - lots of aero know how here and probably knowledge of many cars for sale...

The seats are still fine in mine - wouldn't have thought you'd have a problem.
Don't think there were any big issues with mine. The roof isn't good in the rain - very leaky, but I only drove it a couple of times in the wet when I was caught out. The radio is terrible, but I never had it on anyway. The rear left tyre monitor doesn't work. It has been tracked, but the dealer up here who sold it to Allon Wight's said to them that he didn't think it had. I changed the oil before each one I did. The brake fluid is racing fluid which is miles better.
I did have it resprayed, but it was a proper job where it was stripped and painted from scratch.
The tyres are p-zero neros which I've found excellent despite what autocar have said, and they have about 7mm tread left.
Just give me a shout if you want any other details.

I drove the MMC demo yesterday with a view to maybe upgrading from the S1.

I cannot tell you how disapointed i was. The car was fitted with side exits which did not do it for me. Sounds like the car is misfiring.....running on four. It doesn't give you that deep V8 rumble that I get with my sports system.

I guess I could be biased but to splosh out another 30-35 bags on a car that to mind has gone podgy and over specced would be bonkers. I prefer the relative simplicity of the original in all aspects.....sorry.

biggrin I feel the same, and having driven on the road alongside Boshly in his S2 it doesn't seem to have a great deal more go - I guess the S2 got heavier as well as more powerful...

Just need to keep tweaking the S1 - I think a bit of weight loss and a few little refinements will turn it inot a car I will probabyl never sell.

Ideally I'd get Carbon brakes and a 400bhp M5 engine fitted, but in the short term I guess some straps to holdd the roof in the right place when it's down and a remap at DMS will be good enough...

I much prefer the shape of the S1 too. I know the boot is smaller, but the lid has a much nicer line. The lights are an acquired taste, but I love them. The S2 may have more power, but it's heavier. When I get one again I think I'd rather get a S1.

I have the SIII with sports exhaust set-up. It sounds great. I don't like the emptiness of the rear with side pipes fitted although I have now seen an SIII with the rear defuser fitted to fill the gap a little.

The car has a protective film in most places that would suffer from stone chips and the car can be ordered from the factory with it installed or you can get it retro-fitted. A good option if you are going to drive it a lot.

I've put over 4,000 miles on mine in the 6 weeks I've had it. No interest in changing it for anything else!

I've posted these on TalkMorgan ( http://www.talkmorgan.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showf... ) but for those who don't go over there here are some photos of Series I's with sidepipes and diffusers.

My sports sidepipes with less back-pressure and a deeper bass note were £300.00 (plus the usual VAT) made and fitted by JP Exhausts ( http://www.jpexhausts.co.uk/ ) if anyone is interested. smile

UK shooter - just seen that you're getting a carver. Only seen one before and it looked brilliant.
Have you driven one - can't imagine what they're like!

Yes, test drove the carver a couple of times way back in June 2006 and ordered one immediately, putting 10% down. Delivery was scheduled for November 06, then delayed until February 07, then May, then soon. Had the cash sitting doing nothing so bought the Aero as a substitute. I have no idea when the carver will be delivered. I was told that they stopped making them due to a dispute between the production line and Prodrive at around number 50 sometime back in April/May and mine is number 71 or close to it. At first I heard they were back building again but it turn's out that was misinformation. Another delay was a recall on a suspension component on the first batch of carvers.

I haven't heard any news for a while so will probably give the distributor a ring to find out if there is any more news.
