Waterproof cover for a Morgan +4
Discussion
Yes waxoyl is the answer...I totally rebuilt my car from the bare chassis up.....Chassis has 15+ coats of paint, obviously galvanising is better, the wooden frame is the problem,,,i have dipped mine(new)in cuprinol before firtting and again given it 15+ applications before marine varnish....You have to waxoyl where the wings overlap on the wooden frame...factory underseal is not a good idea on these cars as it helps trap water.
Just work waxoyl into every crease horrible job,but will pay dividends in the long run.
Morgans basically rot from the inside out,,like an over ripe fruit the skin can hold them together,as you are looking at individual pieces of wood and all body panels that have to be hand finished,to the nearest 2 inches to fit you can end up with big bills..Prevention is everything have fun!

As has been said, a cover is better than nothing short term, get a garage if you can.
I would not leave it covered for more than 2 months though - I left my 1980's 4/4 under a cover at a dealer who was selling it for me (he had no covered space left) and it was quite bad after a few months - rusted fuel tank, siezed shocks etc. It was quite tired to start off with (I did have it up to 140,000 miles on the clock) but it went downhill fast.

My Morgan is not garaged and stays under a water-proof cover with a fleecy lining all year round. After five years, no rot (it was cuprinoled and undersealed at the factory), and the paint looks good. The cover is beginning to leak a bit at some seams, but as it gets taken off every day that comes as no surprise.
No idea what brand the cover is. Got it from FH Douglass in Ealing (020 8567 0570). Speak to Tony Hempel and tell him you want the heavy-duty type, NOT the breathable one.
My neighbour uses the breathable one on his 996 and is not happy with it (the cover, that is).
