Hi

It is a little too pricey for me, but a chap I know who has been pondering a new Aero has emailed me with this link.

This is the same GTN which was in Top Gear, enthused over by Richard Hammond on a rain soaked track and then taken to a respectable lap time by the Stig.

What is the history of the car? Its a rare beasty, and I would have thought that all the GTN's will be quite well known among the Morgan community.

Is this a tired old hack which has been thrashed around or an interesting rarity which represents good value compared to a new series 3 ?

Any insider knowledge?

I think I'm right in saying this car has been up for a while... I enquired after it some time ago and the owner was in two minds as to weather to sell.... (the dealer told me)

I think I also saw the chap with it at Goodwood British Classics in 06..(with the for sale sign)

If you like Mk1 Aero's and want that exclusivity and are prepared to pay a £20k premium then go for it... my personal opinion is that it's either short of one huge rear wing ala the LeMans/GT/GT3 Aero's or needs a soft-top.

Its the ex-Morgan registered car and was the one being thrashed around on Top Gear and tested in the press when the GTN was launched. It was for sale at Richard Thornes last summer for a similar price and was in a less than perfect state. I was interested in a GTN, but not that one. It had a large indent in the boot lit, scuffed wheels, less than perfect paint/interior and a very grazed nose. Mileage was very high for an Aero as I remember. It sounded great though. I was approached by another GTN owner who wanted alot more than that for his perfect car...

perfect cars seem to be more in the region of 65k plus. Having said that they only made a handful (10 or so?) so they aren't exactly going to be easy to source.

Think I'll avoid paying 20k to upgrade, and keep saving for an engine conversion...

20k extra - I concluded the same. Engine upgrade must surely be the answer... Certain dealer/racer said they may have an new engine management chip but whether that was sales speak but if enough interest...

As endlessly discussed the BMW M5 engine should theoretically fit under the hood.
Now 400bhp would probably be enough to shut me up permanently. It would probably reuqire an interior retrim in brown leather too...

West Tuning, Thruxton www.west-tuning.com will do a custom remap & chip upgrade for Circa £795 fitted ready to roll out the door. Typically 22BHP average increase with +26Bhp on a good one and between 20-32Lbft increase torque.

It really depends on exhaust it seems... so get the induction and exhaust sorted first ideally.

Hi Andrew

As always on the button except that I dont think this is the car that was at the Goodwood British Classics last year. I spoke to the guy at length (my car was parked 5 away from his) and he mentioned the Top Gear car. I do have his name and phone number in case anyone did want his immaculate car. I think he was looking at between £65 and £70k for his.

Drove this exact GTN this morning, car appeared in reasonable nick but can confirm it's number 4 of 11 - driven by Stig, Hammond et al.

Absolutely awesome, was set to buy a Sagaris but had been put off by the demise of TVR - the girlfriend liked the styling of the older Morgans and dragged me across to Allon Whites on Saturday. To say I was impressed by the styling and performance of the '8' would be a huge understatement.
