Well I had a plus eight many years ago and have just bought a new Morgan...

The obvious answer is try the V8 AND the V6 roadster, I think the new Ford V6 puts out slightly more power than the Rover V8 (now discontinued), but on the other hand you can't beat the sound of the V8 burble...cloud9

No major issues with either, try to get one with as low a mileage as possible, and buy on condition rather than age.

Plenty about at dealers, so take your time and choose wisely....

Your father's information is good. They are both fine cars.

The Roadster develops its power high up in the rev range, the Plus 8 very low down. At the track, the Roadsters, with their greater bhp, gain on the straights and the Plus 8s pull away out of the corners.

The post-2000 Plus 8s (GEMS) are less nimble than their predecessors, but there is an amazing 36 year cache of knowledge on them right on through the last one. As well, the aftermarket, both Morgan and LR, offers a buffet of Plus 8 options. Consequently, the upside power potential of a Plus 8 far exceeds that of a Roadster regardless of their respectuve starting lines.

For whatever the reason, the Plus 8s hold their value better than Roadster. Certainly, the Roadster has not been able to match the sales of the Plus 8, though pound for pound, the Roadsters are better buys ex-Factory than the last Plus 8s.

There should be few problems with either choice. If the mileage is low, especially on the Plus 8, expect to do some sorting. If the mileage is reasonable, that will not be necessary. Buy from a reputable Agent...preferably one who has done the servicing from birth.

A selection here....

www.rtcc.co.uk/used_car_stocklist/view.html

(I have no connection with the dealer btw:;.....)

Many GOOD Morgan dealers spread around the country, in fact I don't THINK there are many bad ones....scratchchin

Four that spring to mind are, Melvyn Rutter, Life's, SGT and John Gills, but there are plenty more....

so much for the advice to 'take your time and choose wisely...'

he bought the Roadster demonstrater he tried, seems pretty pleased with himself as he made a cheeky offer and they accepted it! its in pretty good nick apparently, in quite a bright silver with burgandy interior. Were taking delivery as soon as private plates are transferred off. I havent seen it yet as im down in england he is in scotland, looking forward to going for a blast in it though!

cheers for all the advice, dad moved a bit faster than I anticipated in buying his car!

looking forward to joining the fold.

Hi Designo,

If your Dad's the guy who goes out in Kayaks I think I've been talking Mogs with him on the phone up here in Scotland, there can't be that many Roadsters bought by folks up here in the last weekend! Great news. I see from your profile you're at Coventry University, I was there many years ago but as you might already know so too was Charles Morgan of the car family, studying Production Engineering I believe. Maybe see you at a JockMog gathering sometime?

Cheers,
Lawrence
