My understanding is that the inherent property of galvanized steel is the galvanic protection. Which, iirc, basically means the zinc coating will dissolve (over a long period of time – years and years), as apposed to the steel rusting.
While it is not impossible for an area that has been damaged to rust (these areas are generally treated with zinc coating and made good) or for galvanized steel to develop long term weather damage, it's no worse than any modern car put under the same stresses
