This may not be the appropriate forum but I have just had a new Morgan delivered. It has very "shiny" wire wheels and I would like to stop them rusting particularly at the junction between the spokes and the rim. Suggestions such as WD 40 and Waxoil have been made.

Any better ideas

They are the best suggestions,,,as miles go by the spokes loosen a little and rub and you get the chrome lifting as corrosion gets in.i used waxoil on a set i had.they look good but there are many hours of cleaning involved to keep them at their best,,,Enjoy the car..

Nigel,
It may be that some of your wheel ( spokes or rim) are stainless, I'd check with the factory. No point in treating the part that is.
Good luck, enjoy,
Mark.

When i was at the motor show Mark Leddington form the factory was trying to sell me a set of the new stainless steel wheels which are now standard fit on new cars so check with the factory. If they are chrome plated ones i just keep them coated with WD40 and take them off about once a month and give them a clean.

Ooops! Sorry about the fat fingers.

The SS wheels will be standard equipment only from February, so you're stuck with the made-in-India MWS supplied wheels which WILL rust. WD40 is a good idea, but if you use the car regularly and you see some rust, DO NOT WAIT AND MAKE A WARRANTY CLAIM IMMEDIATELY via your dealer to MMC. Don't be fobbed off by the factory. I have four wheels that are fine and one that has rusted badly. I waited to long to make a claim and was sent packing.

The wheels look nice, but each weighs 6kg more than a similar-sized alloy wheel. That's and extra 24kg of unsprung weight plus 6kg of sprung weight our cars are lugging around. Not a lot, you say? It is when the whole car weighs only 975kg!

How did I end up with wires? My wife insisted on them, promising she'd clean them. I even bought her a special brush. How often has she cleaned the wheels in the 4 1/2 yrs I've had the car? Dont' ask...
