Great Day in Malvern
Discussion
Have just got back from Malvern, it was really worth the trip. As we were in the Aero shed the Chairman approached us and gave me his business card in case I needed any favours with a future purchase.
If I go down the new route it will have to be a V6 Roadster. The Aero 8 is a fab piece of kit and it was sad that so many were going across to the states instead of here in the UK market.
There was one Aero 8, that was being painted in Chameleon and it did look stunning.
The next stage is a test drive (The factory are going to call me when their Roadster returns). I daren't drive an Aero 8 as I suspect it will be car I want.

V6 Morgans are proving very slow sellers (everyone still wants a +8, hence 3yr old V8's going for the price of a nearly new V6) and just havent taken off, my advise if you want to go for a V6 is find a dealer with one in stock in a colour/spec you like and you should find them very willing to do 'a deal'
Hi,
I agree with "Mustard". But, I do know a very happy V6 owner who moved from a V8. The V6 is a much smoother riding car than the V8 for travelling long distances and is much more economic on fuel if you do intend to travel afar. The biggest problem most people have with the V6 is that it is so quiet! EC regs mean it must leave the factory as a quiet car. But, if you get a Morgan dealer to fit the sports exhaust (not a factory option) it becomes a sports car again. The V6 has better cornering for the typical driver than the V8 because it doesn't have that heavy Buick/Rover V8 engine to take care of; it also tends to run cooler. ...it's a matter of taste, the V8 burble is gorgeous and the V6 will never sound that way, but try a V6 and imagine the sports-exhaust, they sound pretty good. If I had the choice between a V6 and V8 at the same price I'd certainly go for the ...ummm ....errr ...well probably the V?

I would drive the Aero. If you've got enough cash for a s/h one (35+) then it really is such a complete aeon ahead of the older cars in drivability you won't wany anything else - especially after coming from a Boxster.
My Aero 3was 2 years old, with 1600miles on the clock, ok it may not have been 'brand new' from the factory, but if you hadn;t seen the 1600 on the odo, you would have thought it was built yesterday. Most Aeros ahve been bought by eccentrics who never seem to get round to using them much!
However, I've put aroun 2500 on mne in 6 weeks so far and I'm loving it!
It's interesting that you say that the V6 is a slow seller. Every traditional car I saw at the Factory was a V6, although the majority of them were going for export.
My shortlist so far is a Morgan (Of Some Description), New Boxster or a New SLK.
I have to say I am leaning towards a Morgan at present, I fancy something different instead of the usual suspects. I tried the new Boxster (987) yesterday and was totally underwhelmed. I am trying an SLK today. All that will leave me to do is try both Morgans.

Get out and drive them Catherine. I think you'll find an enourmous difference between the +8/+6 and the Aero however. I'd still suggest a good low milage (they all are!) Aero instead of a 987 - @ circa 40k it's so much mroe car for the cash, it'll keep more value long term, and it truly is a special car.
Been out and about today, and everywhere you go you are very much centre of attention - even had lambos waving to me!
Mail me via my profile Mr Mustard! depends what buttons is of course, but a spare alloy always handy!

Worldwide sales I think Morgan are doing pretty well, but I think the problem in the UK is your tradionial Morgan buyers have always 'promised themselves' a +8 the definative classic Morgan.
The V6 Roadster is neither traditional (with its new fangle modern V6) nor modern with its traditional construction
The Aero 8 on the otherhand is a serious piece of kit (I followed a colleague who was driving the GTN version in a S2 Exige and crosscountry it was just as quick through the bends) and its construction is infinately superior to a TVR with a real sense of craftsmanship to it, its comparative lack of success in this country is most buyers of £50k Sportscars dont sit happily with the Morgan name prefering the
ubitious(sp) Porsche etc.
Superb BMW V8, high tech construction coupled with traditional craftmanship, if it was a TVR folks would be raving from the rooftops about them rather than talking about their usual woes!
If your looking for something 'different' then I think you've found it!

Hi,
There is a nice Aero 8 GTN for sale at Richard Thorne Classic cars I think for £53,000 which is a good buy given they only made 11 and cost £72,000 new.
Morgan's problem with the traditional cars is that is cheaper to buy secondhand where you can get a brand new car effectively for under list price.
It used to be with the waiting list that it was cheapest to wait and buy a new one. People are therefore not so keen to buy new as they will lose money on it, but if they buy a used one they won't and with a Morgan it is the same car.
There is still a waiting list of under 12 months but if you know who to speek to you can get free leather seats and other extras and / or get one in under 2-3 months.
Good Luck.
William
