Full of expectation I recently test drove a 1997 Morgan Plus 8 4.6. Beautiful car fully serviced by Morgan and franchise dealers. 20,00 miles only. Never driven one before. I found the gear shift difficult to cope with. I was really struggling at times to select the correct gear. I found it very imprecise and I was feeling to guide it into the correct gear. It rather spoilt the whole driving experience I had been anticipating. Is this typical of that model with the Rover gearbox or may it need some minor fixing or adjustment? I have been used to driving a Honda S2000 where the gear change is precise and quick. In all other respects it was a lovely car but because of this, sad to say, I walked away from it

The selector has rubber bushes that can deteriorate. A well known problem on the Rover boxes. Polybushes are an improved upgrade.
Have a look here.....www.gomog.com
Look in the Workshop Manual section for gearboxes info. Go into the Plus8 specific section for more data.
I have a 2002 Plus8. 4.0l with R380 gearbox. Love the car.
