Morgans & depreciation

Well, did the Sunday Service yesterday, and was bowled over. My 60 year old Citroen isn't really compatible with our 18 Month old Daughter .... not having seat belts etc, and I have been looking at rationilising my collection of dodgy old cars for something a bit more sensible....and yes in my mind a Morgan 4/4 may be a bit more sensible.

I was looking at used prices, and quite surprised that £15k seems entry level, irrespective of age. Now, I can afford this, but had planned to squirrel a few quid away in another boring ISA or similar, but looking at the prices, it would appear that a well cared for Morgan is a fairly rock solid investment as well as damn good fun !

Was there ever a "cheap period", a bit like E Types going for £1500 in the 70's or....has the Marque always held it's own.

As a Morgan "Virgin" I'm off to do a lot of homework !

15k is the entry for morgan 4/4. I ran a 4/4 4 seater for 4 years as a daily until last autumn (having sold it for slightly more than I paid). It was an '87 cvh engined beast and was only equipped with lap belts in the back from new, The dealer (lifes in southport) were able to create a diagonal arrangement. but even then you cant put a child seat in the back. My little lad was 5 when we bought ours and he was able to sit in the back, on the regular bench seat with the new diagonal strap perfectly placed - a booster would have raised him up too much. He did sometimes it in the front with a booster, but couldn't see out frontwards, and not to the side with weather gear on - he preferred it in the back as he could see out better. I am not sure how the bigger seat for an 18 month old would work for you. The early/mid nineties brought a slight modification of the 4 seater, this may have better rear seat accommodation, but if probably 20k and above. The current 4 seater (from about 2006)has much more conventional rear seats but would be much more than 15k

So back to depreciation - my car appreciated by about 12% over the 4 years , although I spent about the same on upgrading things that wore out. my car had 18k miles one when I picked it up and 57k when I sold it. It was utterly reliable, only leaving me stranded one with a dead battery, I had a few niggles due to its previous low use.

I think morgans have always held their price well, in part due to limited supply from the factory. I first started looking seriously at morgans in about 2004, at that time the entry level was 12k

I would certainly have another.
