Hi all,

My girlfriend's Dad emailed me today with a new question following the fantastic response from Piston Heads about why his Merc wasn't selling...

I'll just copy and paste:

"I have a friend in Singapore whose father died a short while back and part of his estate (apart from an old E Type Jag which he is having restored) are 8 Morgan engines. Don't know a lot about Morgans although I seem to recall they no longer use their own engines, but my friend is wondering about their value and how best to sell them. (They are in Bedfordshire) Any thoughts?"

So, over to you Piston Heads. Who should I contact? I can't find any specialists online who deal with this...

Obviously understand this looks like a subtle advertising thread but I promise (as per the Merc) this isn't the intention.

Many thanks,

Freddy

AFAIK Morgan have never made engines, the original 3 wheeler used JAP, BSA & Ford. The 4 wheelers have used Ford, Triumph TR, Rover, Fiat, BMW & probably a few others I can't remember.

Ah ok! Interesting. Thanks.

Were these Morgan branded? Is there a way to ascertain which engines they are?

I don't think so - my ford engine has no branding on it (apart from FORD) - it is possible that some of the latest V6 & V8s might be branded with a stick on plate or something

If you can determine what configuration the engines are (4,6 or 8 cylinders), and possibly identify serial numbers, plus approximate ages, you could probably determine if they could have been morgan stock by phoning up the factory - I would imagine they probably have records

About 7 years ago, purchased a brand new 'out of the crate' complete 4.6ltr rover V8 engine ...which I think came from PTP.... when it arrived it had a Morgan badge on the air intake chamber on top of the engine... may be it is the same engine.

Rowland at ACR Deeside may be interested??

Morgan have never built their own engines, so unless they are something like a + 4 supersports or modified with the appropiate documentation they will only be worth the equivenet Ford/ Rover/ Fiat/Standard /JAP/ Matchless value

Also Peugeot (yes really, but in 1909), MAG (Motosacoche Acacias Genève), British Anzani, Blackburne, Coventry Climax and Standard.
