This thing is a an utter weapon.

http://www.morgan-motor.co.uk/mmc/babydoll.html#!p...

The recent Plus 4 Super Sport was a nod to the track. But the motor is a bit lame. I like it but it's not a racing car. So I didn't bother.

The Baby Doll is the real mc-coy. 255 brake so no more moaning that the Caterham has more power. Proper brake set up all round. Proper shocks. Proper Seats. Proper cage. Proper wheels/tyres. Proper race wheel. Proper diff. It's mega tasty looking sans bumpers.

This thing is designed to race. Take off the windscreen and fit the two aero screens if you desire that on the track.

I can't fault this car. I personally won't race but it will be superb on the twisty bits..

I think I'm going to go and buy one! Long time dead and all that.

I welcome your thoughts.. Is there any reason not to buy one or a negative aspect? (I'll have no "it's a Morgan so will leak" 8ollox ta very much...)

Well if you really want a Morgan..........but, even with the same engine, they will never have the performance of a Caterham, too heavy you see. There appears to be no weight shown for the Baby Doll, but I would be very surprised if it came in at under 800kgs, probably nearer 900kgs, light yes, but not half light enough.

Sadly Morgan do not seem to be good at VERY light cars, mind you, even Lotus have lost their way, the latest Elsie has gone up from 750kgs to nearer 850 - 900 these days. Look what Morgan have done to the new Three Wheeler, it's around 525kgs, now there is a lost opportunity for a light car, it should be 100kgs less, but that's another subject.

It's all about power to weight. My CSR 260 is 575kgs and shoves out 260, about 460bhp per tonne I believe.

Hope you don't mind me pointing these things out, as you mentioned Caterham in the first place?

I agree. But in my eyes the Caterham is a late 50's/60's derived 4 wheeled motorbike. Too fast to race if I recall.

I do like Caterhams but a Morgan is a 30's car dragged kicking and screaming into modernity.

It will never be as fast as a 300 brake Caterham but that's not why I want it. It's not about outright speed for me. It's about a more hardcore machine. I like the concept and could easily buy a specced up Boxster S for the money. No thanks. I have a daily driver and have come to detest modern Porsches. The image aint what it was..

In ten years the Boxster will be worth a few grand at most. This thing will probably keep up with inflation let alone be worth list.

There is no doubt that the Caterham is a '50's and '60's design car, but I would attest that it is vey hard core, but nothing like the four wheeled motorbike image, that some journo has lumbered it with at some time, even though it's got a comfortable ride and will go around corners.

I admit I am talking out of my backside here, as I've never been in a modern Morgan 4 wheeler for longer than 10 minutes, let alone driven one, but they do seem quite cosseting to me, but with an awful ride, however I do own one of their overweight Three Wheelers which does have a good ride, as it has proper wishbone front suspension. [no that's not an invitation for a scrap, just saying]

Having driven a Morgan+4SS quite a bit, I recon that this baby doll version would be pretty handy with the extra power.

Out of interest the Morgan was weighed earlier this year & came out at 835kg which gives it roughly 240bhp/ton. Would be interesting to put it on a set of rollers as it's now loosening up nicely with a few miles now on it.

ETA weight etc

I've recently bought a new Morgan Roadster (with the 3.7 V6 Mustang engine). Apart from looking great, it goes like snot. Huge fun.

Buy one.

Now.

No Engine Warranty due to race tune...

By the way, what are Morgan going to make the frames for their cars out of once we've cut down and burned all the diseased ash trees across the UK???

I believe they've issued a statement saying it won't effect them.... I guess they have a big stockpile and that there are alternative sources.

Yes, there is sufficient ash already available for two years, while non-English ash and alternatives could be found if that proved necessary in the long term. Their website has a statement.
