Will i regret it
Discussion
in short, im about to order a new Morgan 4/4 sport (1.6). my small worry is i drive 911s and a Cayenne as my everyday drives. these are obviously both fast and full of "make bad drivers look good electronic, gizmo's" the morgan on the other hand is nimble, but not quick and will show me up for the driver i am. so my question is will i miss the pace of the porsches and end up never getting the 4/4 out of the garage or i will just love the fun and simplicity of the 4/4. has anyone got simular experiences or thoughts on the subject.
PS I dont fancy the bigger engined versions, i like the idea of cheap occasional motoring.

I've got a few 911's (and some other cars) - I used to have a 4/4 and my biggest regret is that I sold it ! I now want to buy another one as I really enjoyed driving it ( still can't quite remember why I sold it !)
I do recall some time ago reading an article in the Porsche 356 "registry" magazine in which people were questioning why they drove 356's rather than more modern or powerful cars - the conclusion ( and hopefully it's appropriate in this case ) was that -
"It's far more interesting to drive a slow car fast, than to drive a fast car slow"
Buy the 4/4 you'll love it !

hi Steve. i could have one by November from Allon White (MK43) but im looking to take delivery in March. and yes it has to be in Grey. i will let you know what happy driving i have from march. on another note you seem to have answers to another question. ive just followed a multi car insurance thread of yours.
Look forward to hearing about it - If you don't mind can I ask what deposit you were asked to put down ?
Re Multi-car policy - I've had these for some years, seemingly prior to the larger companies offering them. Interestingly after my last posting re these policies I called Admiral to "discuss my renewal" and within ten minutes, and without too much prompting they reduced my premium by £300 from the renewal quotation I'd received from them a week before ! - My cars seem to work out at an average of around £500pa so I can only assume a 4/4 Sport will be around the same - famous last words !

There are many current and ex 911 owners who run Morgans of all types. I myself have had two. What a Morgan gives that very few cars seem to have these days (probably due to the "make bad drivers good electronic gizmos" you refer to) is soul and character by the bucketful.PS I dont fancy the bigger engined versions, i like the idea of cheap occasional motoring.
Oh, and get used to being smiled at instead of frowned at (or worse!)

It's a combination of many things. The simplicity, the vintage feel, the interior style, the craftsmanship which goes into every one and especially the view down the bonnet. I've had mine three years this week, and love it more than ever. Try to do the factory tour. The MSCC is involved with a special tour on Saturday 10th September - check with the factory if there are any places left. I think the cost is £12.50 including a buffet lunch, and a few from TM will be there (including me).
Morgan owners are a great bunch and if you check out TalkMorgan you'll get a good idea.

I have just added a new 4/4 to the fleet. Can't really comment on driving aspects yet but I opted for the basic engine because the car was never going to be about performance for me.
With respect to insurance they are treated as modern classics. A limited mileage policy with Gott and Wynne Morgan specialists will be £2-300.
If you buy from AW then I would recommend their leather covered steering cowl.
Also don't forget the leather bound build record.

I've had various fun cars over the years Dino 308 GT4, XK8 Conv, C4S, Tuscan 2 and recently bought a s/h 4/4 from Lifes Motors at Southport.
I am really pleased with the car and the view down the bonnet etc but I'm not yet sure if she's a keeper.
I bought the 4/4 with the 1.8 Zetec engine and, so far, I am a little underwhelmed by the engine but I'm told that the previous owners drove her very sedately and an 'Italian tune up' over the next few months might help. If not, there are various tuning options. The mileage currently is about 5,250 only.
I don't like driving her with the roof up and so either drive with the top down or the tonneau covering the passenger seat. I find roof up like a tent with windows, although it isn't claustrophobic.
Driving her does make me smile and folk have a genuine affection for these cars, far more so than people have for the other cars that I've had in the past.
Visit a dealer and have a good run before you decide which to buy.
I'm hoping that this will be a long term ownership - but I'm not quite convinced yet, which is entirely of my own making.
