Took the 4/4 to a rolling road diagnostic place today, because I was a bit concerned that she seemed to be hanging back on overtakes etc.

Apparently she is down by 15 bhp mainly, they say, because she's been driven so sedately over the last 5,000 miles since new.

They recommended a few months of pushing the revs up to about 4,5k and driving her a bit harder.

They reckon that, if this doesn't do it, they can change the throttle body for a 2.0 version (mine's 1.8) etc.

They say the cat doesn't help either.

For the time being, I'll try pushing her a bit more as they reckon this might just do it.

Anyone else had this issue at all?

Some "spirited" driving may loosen the car up - it did with my 1992 4/4 as previous owners had done very low mileage and not "driven very fast at all" - quote from dealer!
Keep the car WELL maintained as fall offs lead to power reduction - good spark, regular oil change, clean cool air intake etc..
After a year's ownership I notice the car running better than when bought
Its done 28k - 6k is mine over the last year. So 18 years of low mileage before me!
CVH is ok for 6k rpm but max I have done is just over 5k on motorway for a short test.

Yes theres no substitute for an italian tune up...

When I did the sprint taster with MSCC last year John stephens advised me that my cvh would be more than happy to rev to 6k - I'd only had it a few months at the time and hadn't fully explored - He was right of course, its fine although I don't know if it yields any extra power for the cvh but it makes more noise, which is almost as good. I now try to find an excuse for a bit of spirited acceleration every so often (only up to the legal limit of course). My car does run a lot better now than when I first got it, at the time it had covered 18k in 21 years, I am happy to say it went past 45k last week 22 months later.

Looks like a bit more spirited driving is in order then.

Cheers!
