Seller fromHell (Blue Chim for Sale in Essex)
Discussion
As some of you may have noticed in one of my other posts I went to look at Chimaera that was for sale through Top Marques web site.
I went up Sunday, had a look at it, and said I would have it subject to an AA check which he said was o.k.
After organising it with the AA, I called him to arrange it and he said I want to be with the car at all times because I had an MR2 done by the RAC and a fuse blew.I said o.k and got the AA to contact him.
He said he could not have it done until the 30th March, a week and a half away.
The AA later told us that he couldn't have it done this weekend because it was his girlfriends birthday and didn't have the time during the week!!
It made me wonder whether he wanted to sell the car.
I had trouble getting hold of him, and then had problems on the vehicle check with the AA, one of the previous registrations on the car had a Written off signal next to it.
It wasn't really a problem as it was on another car at the time.
He finally called me and I returned the call today.
The first thing he said was, "I don't want the AA checking it, only a TVR dealer so I'm putting up for sale again this weekend."
I had already told him I wanted the car!!
By this stage I had already spent £30 on a vehicle search. He said "The AA were going to send a contractor around and I don't want that happening, as I had an MR2 that had the battery tray rusty and paint, etc etc.
I couldn't believe it, as I wanted this car but he flatly refused having it checked by the AA.
It makes me suspicious that something may need doing to it, so beware if you're looking at one in North Essex!!
I think I may be keeping my Spitfire for a while longer now.

Right, forget about this one straight away!
Any hassle from the seller, just walk!
Continue your search, there's loads out there, some good, some not so good, but get an independent to look at the car if at all possible.
Of course if you said in which town in Essex it might help others avoid it. Don't think this is naming and shaming is it Ted?
Have fun!

Walk away or better still run. What does he have to hide?
If I were selling my TVR (which I'm not until after LeMans) I'd let any professional check it over. As long as you've got nothing to hide and its reasonably priced you've got nothing to lose.
The only thing I might have reservations is for someone else to drive it. I'm a bit over protective of my car!
Putting up silly excuses when you've basically said you would buy it sets off alarm bells and you're about to pay him 10's of thousands of pounds!! Incredible.

I have a simple rule when it comes to buying a car,
if its the car for me, everyting will be simple, if i get any hasle then its not the car for me, a car has to want you, sounds like that car didnt.
A TVR is not somthing that you rush into for most it is a lot of money so it has to be right. When you find the right car you will know... walk away from that one
may the force be with you....
Graham
p.s.
(the aa know jack shit get joolz to look at it)

The strange thing was this guy was saying "I don't want anyone other than TVR looking at it, because if they blow the ECU it costs a £1000 to replace."
I seem to have nightmares buying cars privately.
My dad & I went to Bristol about 6 years ago to look at a TR7 (don't ask, I wanted a TR8 at the time but they are rare and I only had 3k to spend), and after spending about 10 minutes looking at this heap, he kicked us out of his garage and said "its obvious you are wasting my time."
Someone at my fathers works maybe getting rid of a pre cat 4.0 Griff which looks immaculate for around 13k.
Still not 100% sure on the griff styling though.
I would feel a lot more confident going to a TVR Dealer/ Specialist to buy a TVR, but the prices are still too high for me at the moment.
Ah well...one day.

If you're not sure on the styling of the Griff and like the Chim – get the Chim. I did and if I'd seen a Griff and it was the bargain of the decade – I still don't think I'd have bought. The Chim just looks

Not as

Got mine from a dealer in the end because to me, they were giving it away ... gotta search for 'em tho'
Mikey T would that dealer be Mole Valey in Salfords judging by the pic in you profile. I bought mine from M valley Chessington I agree that chim is in my opion more appealing to the eye than the griff but wouldn't turn a griff away and do not want to start a war! but very pleased with my car and dealer.

Certainly would only!
Very happy with the car and the dealer. (Pretty rare really!)
supraman ... it's usually a buyer's market for these things. If someone is dicking you around, forget about it. There are plenty more out there, and I'd have thought with your price range, there wouldn't be too much difficulty finding another.
Would be interesting to have a MkIV supra and a TVR. Both excellent driving machines, but very very different.
