Can anyone tell me what oil pressure my Chimaera 500 should run at? When cold it runs at around 30 and goes down to 10 area when warm.

Mines a 97 Chim 500, I get 45ish when cold, 15ish when warm at idle. Round the town around 30ish when warm, A road/Motorway speeds 40ish when warm. Being a TVR I wouldn't expect exactly the same numbers from all cars. From what I recall, below 10 is a cut off point. If you're below 10, or worse still not showing any pressure, stop the engine straight away! I stand to be corrected but I don't have the bible handy to check.

Hope this helps,

Steve (and Bright Yellow Chim 500)

sounds a bit strong...

As said before below 10lbs is bad news. As a suggestion, you might like to get Steve Heath's excellent book on the Griffith and Chimaera. It has loads of useful info on everyday running issues.

good suggestion on buying the book.

don't worry about the actual reading on the gauge as long as it is above 20 or so. they are notoriously vague. Use it is a warning - if the gauge suddenly drops to zero, stop. Immediately.

Maybe there should be a pre-requisite to owning a TVR and being on PH - Steve's book.... How about making it available on the site Ted? Not for me as I already have a copy, but there are lots of other people that can learn from this book and get a better insight on mechanicals of the cars...

Cheers,

Paul
