Can Anyone tell me why Chimaera's have only 15inch wheels on the front? this to my mine looks wrong, is there anything to stopping me putting 16inch rears on the front with maybe slightly narrower tyres

You could answer your own question by trying one of your rear wheels on the front? Yes they will fit but I suggest you actually confirm this for yourself on your car before parting with any money. There are slight handling advantages to running lower profile rear tyres, but I suspect the main reason they are different is styling.

Will they clear the wheel arches on full lock (not that full lock is massive, mind you)

clearing the wheel arches is not an issue......hitting the wishbones is if you are fitting bigger wheels

none other than needing to fit spacers on the fronts...no big deal really, tyres are more pricey tho
