Anyone had problems with the brake light switch? Found out this weekend my brake lights are operating intermittantly. So put a voltmeter across the connections and found 12v as you would expect. Then operated the switch and saw 0v. Checked the lights and they were working again. I guess I have a dodgy switch or wiring. Could this be caused by something else?

Is the brake light switch a Ford/Other part or is this a TVR part. ('96 4.0).

Try taking out the bulbs and putting them back in again. Mine were coming on intermittently and after just jigging them around a bit, all was fine!

The brake light switch can die - mine did last year. It's a cheap part (probably why it broke). £4 from a dealer but you can probably get one from Halfords or a good motor factor. Sits above the brake pedal.

I had a similar problem on my chimaera. My brake lights would stay on for a short time after starting up or come on when I would accelerate as hard as I could. This was quite amusing especially when people were trying to keep up with me.

It was a loose switch on the brake pedal. Minor adjustment and it works fine now.

C'mon, if it was like windows, he'd be suggesting that you just got out of the car and back in again.....

Ho Ho Ho but the point of taking the bulb out and putting it back is right as they can be put in the wrong way round and fail.

Cheers all, was the brake pedal switch.

Here's a tip for longer lasting bulbs.....
Buy genuine motorcycle stop/tail bulbs. They have an extra support within the bulb for the filaments and are less susceptable to vibration. Found this out when I had my R1 (that's a motorcycle for those who don't know).
