Now I have searched in the past for info on this topic but no one has actually answered the question:
Mobile one now offers two grades of there product the 0-40W and the 15-50W both are branded as Mobil 1 but the 15-50W is marked High Performance.
Which is the one that will work and last better in a TVR V8 Chim than the other and Why?

I know taking advice about oil on these pages can seem a bit risky so have a chat with some one who races or tunes the V8 motors like Steve Howard at Thames Valley Racing. My experience of Mobil 1 is that it was going past the rings and spattering all over the rear of the car and drinking a litre every 300/500 miles, I now use a 10/40 synthetic and it lasts up to 1500 miles a litre and doesn't splatter the rear

My view is that 15-50 is too thick.
Too thick for what? You have to bear in mind that this engine was designed decades ago when low viscosity synthetic oils simply didn't exist. It's designed with huge clearances everywhere and you need a reasonably high viscosity to generate enough pressure to generate the right flow distribution. Thicker oil also drastically cuts the oil consumption as it doesn't leak past the rings and seals so quickly.

Peter Humphries (and a green V8S)
I think Steve used to use a Texaco branded Synthetic - might have changed by now. Anyway, since my last service there (6,000 miles ago, ahem, service time again) it's only used around 1 litre and the oil 'looks' quite clean (I know I can't tell it's protective properties from looking at it).
