Engine Problem........Help!!!!
Discussion
My Chimaera 450 has developed an engine problem which although the car and I spent five hours at the dealers still isn't right.
If I drop the revs below about 2200 the exhaust note changes from a crackle to a more muffled sound and the engine does not pull properly plus some misfiring. As soon as I open it up the car starts to accelerate but not as quickly as it should and then suddenly takes off. Once I'm further up the revs a lot of the problem disappears.
When starting the engine the revs are all over the place fluctuating from 700 to 1400 but the engine itself sounds as though it is firing on all eight at least and the exhaust note is back to a crackle.
Dealer replaced the coil, HT lead and plug on cylinder seven cos they established it was not firing cleanly. I just wonder if 7 and 8 being the rearmost cylinders are not firing cleanly cos there is a more fundamental problem.
Have heard discussions about problems with "fuel pots" not calibrating properly or getting lost and sending duff data to ECU.....as you may have noticed I don't really understand the details here.
Has anyone got any ideas or had a similar problem??? By the way the car is seven months old and has done about 7K miles.....HELP!!!!!

Well after a lot of blind alleys the smart money is on the air flow meter (Land Rover part 5AM or AM5 can't recall) so you were just about spot-on.
But here's the rub, the dealer doesn't seem to be able to find a new air flow meter for love or money. The factory don't have any and neither do the dealers.....so it will be a new cat next cos I need the car for daily use....

I got mine from www.douglasvalleybreakers.co.uk - 01257 472866 - £200 plus vat for a used part including postage, which was better then £398+VAT for a new one - I used the Part Search facility on Autotrader.co.uk and got a call a few days later from a Range Rover breakers who had one for £150+ VAT but I don't have his number.
If you do want a new one then I think www.autopost.co.uk can supply you with one - Lucas 5AM it is called IIRC....
