Hi all

I'm looking at a 4.5 98S at the moment that seems pretty sound, apart from rust on the front wishbones. Is this something I need to worry about? How much should I negotiate off the price assuming that they'll need replacing?

bazza, this is apparently very common. I'm having my wishbones replaced next saturday. Have been quoted about £250 by David Batty in Guildford. He says he always keeps loads in stock as he replaces them all the time.

My car has had its front wishbones replaced by Mole Valley before I owned the car. I can look through the receipts for a price of you want?

And I thought 'Wishbone Rust' was a crap 70s guitar band... no, it must have been from burnt Morgans instead of TVRs.
Its Friday and I'm wittering...

Bazza,

I also drive an S plate Chimaera 450. My wishbone are a bit rusted but they are still ok, but I have just add a chassis / wishbone cleaned and waxoiled. It's cost me about £140.

Sounds like a problem we all suffer from but with a bit of TLC can keep on top of.

hi bazza,
I viewd it last week-end. My main concern was actually that it needed servicing immediately (its nearly 1K overdue), also the windscreen rubbers were falling off and she had odd tyres on the car, therefore a minimum of £1K required immediately (assuming that the service is £750 and that the w/s does not require replacing) - I actually refused a test drive - as there was no point.
In my mind I'd say that a dealer would give her around £14-14.5K, therefore a private punter (us) would be daft to pay any more than £16k £16.5.
Buy I'm not after it - did'nt like the colour anyway !

hope that helps - keep me in contact if you go ahead.

Oh on the wishbones. Another car I viewed had the same problem - the eventual buyer (currymonster) had it checked by D. Batty - he gave the all clear - so I think it's an easily solvable problem.
