Only Bo again.

Is this possible:

When I buy my Chim I want:

The backlit number plate, so pre facelift you say, but ... I want the under the mirror door openers and not the big chrome doorbell thingies, post-facelift you say.

I think I may be correct in thinking the crossover didn't happen immediately so are there any cars out there that have both ... sorry have to ask ... as otherwise I'll be searching for the impossible methinks.

Yep - mine's like that.
You're looking at late 96/early 97 to early 98.

The backlit plate went when the rear lights changed.

Differences in the build levels is extreme. Mine has the backlit number plate but the buttons for the door! Most of the others that I have seen with backlit number plates have had buttons for the doors or alu covers for the buttons....

There must be some more out there - but I guess that restricting the choice to a particular specification may restrict your colour combination choice. I would go for colour / interior combo and condition before age and spec. Thats just my opinion of course...

Mine is a August 97 with the under mirror buttons and flush number plate - I agree that the new lights look better but at only around £350 to get them fitted later, I think this is the best combo....

As I said, the combination of under-mirror door buttons and backlit rear plate/fiesta lights was made betweeen late '96/early '97 and early '98. This was also the start of the Cerbera front.

Before that was the ally push buttons for the doors, mesh front.

After it was the challenger tank rear lights, slanted rear plate and 1.3 litre diesel engine.

Ok I lied about the last bit...

Nah! The new lights are very trendy and all that, but sit behind one with the Fiesta lights and dark paintwork and see how evil it looks, the rear lights are angled down towards the middle of the car ever so slightly and with the curving design of the boot lid it gives the car a real frown, topped off with the rumble on tickover and growl when pulling away it's enough to scare small children and OAP's

Should I get out more?

I've got to admit that I actually prefer the newer lights, despite having a car that was just before they came in. Not sure I'd fork out £350-400 for the conversion though, as you say. Might be tempted with afterburners at ~£300 though....
