Had a very scary moment today when cold tyres and a wet greasy bit of off camber tarmac got the better of me... The thing is I was only doing about 45mph and I ended up facing the wrong way.

Ended up doing a 180 degree spin, fortunatley didn't hit anything or anybody...Thank God...! And Thanks to the previous owner fitting new tyres recently...

This must have happened to nearly all TVR owners at some point, obviously not all ended without a scratch.

I now have a complete respect for the power and the rain.... not a good mix....

See all you fair weather drivers in the summer...

Jon, no worries, after a couple of weeks on slicks I had to get new tyres for my own safety!
Glad that you've managed to learn about the power without doing any damage. Won't be long before you're looking for quiet, wet bends!
Cheers...... Andrew

yea me too, I've had a small amount of rear end drifts under acceleration, but this just seemed to come from nowhere, went back to check the skid marks , they look cool in a kind of figure of eight criss crossing the white lines, just thank god it was on a three lane piece of road,(not motorway)! I'll probably look at getting some proffesional training any suggestions, a skid pan course would interest me a lot, especially on a simulated or wet surface.

Whoops - Me too !

Just had my first non-induced slide coming off a roundabout which I go round most days - although not that often in the Chim. The back end floated round about 40 degrees before I managed to catch it. Luckily I started out on the inside of a dual carraigeway otherwise I would have collected the curb. It did all seem to happen quite slowly though and snapped back into place without fishtailing. All I need to do now is to get it to do that under control - Wheeeeeeeeee !

I must remember to give less pedal in the wet !

I'm sure you did *something* to induce it, otherwise it wouldn't have happened!

Cheers,

I wonder whether some people who buy TVR's have previously been driving front wheel drive motors most of the time and, as we know, rear wheel drive is a different kettle of kippers (esp. with 250+ bhp).

I did all my spinning around in a 2.8 V6 Capri, a mark 1 Toyota MR2 and a Nissan 200SX to the point where I often drove on opposite lock 'cos I just like to !!. Even after all that I'd still expect to have to take great care in a TVR (if I ever get one !) till I'd found the limit.

I wouldn't fancy going straight from FWD to a RWD TVR without having gone through the learning process above.

No wonder insurance is group 20. I wouldn't insure someone for a TVR after 5 years in a Peugeot 205 or whatever.....

Blimey 180deg at 45mph

Hit the loud pedal coming off a roundabout/bend when it's wet and see what happens. Get it facing square first, accelerate (steady)

.........but when it's dry

..or when it's been snowing and you have a vast area of empty car park

I don't have another car so drive TVR every day - with
respect at all times

Had mine swap ends at 60mph which was a entertaining.

Driving up to the North East coast a couple of years ago, weather was starting to close in. Approaching roundabout at 60mph, dual carriagway. Eased off accelerator, not even thinking about braking yet, and whap! all of a sudden I'm going backwards and staring into 2 lanes of oncoming headlights.

Have to say I felt a little like Tom Arnold in Erasor - the scene where he hides from gunfire behind a lamppost then has the check himself over twice for damage!

Change of underwear req`d.
Keep a spare pair in the boot ?!?!?

In all honesty though when you 'mean' to lose the back end it is lovely and controllable..Most enjoyable yesterday as I span it all over the shop showing a chap what it can do in the wet ( Came to car club looking at Chimaeras, someone had to take him out )

Unfortunately, when you don't intend to lose it, they can go damn quickly IMHO and when mine went it was more luck than judgement that kept me on the road
