Just got a quote for £596.00 fully comp 'classic policy' (second car) 5,000 miles a year for a 4.0L Chimaera. I'm 34 live on the outskirts of London have full no claims, one minor conviction and one claim (attempted theft).

Does this seem reasonable?

Thanks - simon.

I am exactly the same age, 4.0L Chim, 3000 miles p.a., full NCB, 3 points SP30 - and live in the wilds of Yorkshire - and I am paying £600 to Cornhill via Mannings. Your quote seems very reasonable for London!

I'm 34, 4.0 '96 Chimaera, have it insured with Sunninghill for approx £600 (could be 50 quid either way I can't remember now, was 33 when I took out the policy). Unlimited mileage, 5*RAC cover, Trackday cover, 30 day european cover, cuddly toy, tea's maid, set of luggage........
Give 'em a ring.

Likewise. I'm 27. Insured for me and the wife. 5,000 miles p.a. 93 4.0L Chimaera, garaged in Northants. Full NCB, although she has an SP30 (gained in a Fiesta!!). All the usual alarms and stuff.

£435 from A Manning

Amazing. Less than half the price of the next cheapest quotation. I haven't owned a car in the last 5 years that has cost me so little to insure!

Now that's all very interesting. I have the same approximate profile as the rest of you - 1994 4L, full ncb, no accidents or convictions and living in North Yorkshire, yet I pay £835 to mannings!

Wonder why the big variations?

Perhaps Ann would like to tell me, but I don't suppose she will.

Surely she should be able to discuss with you how you could reduce your premium. There's usually a number of factors - limited mileage, garaged, postcode, age, hairy back... etc....

You can usually get premiums reduced by limiting the risk in some way, even if it's by increasing the excess.

Not unless you tell us who you got the quote from!!!

Sounds like a very good quote.

Sorry it was AON Tel : 01384 455011. It was about 50 quid a year cheaper if you opted for the 3,000 mile a year option.

Simon.

Thanks for posting the insurance info - I have just been quoted £686 by Direct Line for my 4.0 Chim. This includes 2 other named drivers (wife and son )on 5000 miles p.a.

This seems quite reasonable, but I think I will shop around a bit more!

CurryMonster,

That quote seems high, shop around a bit - there's loads of numbers in Sprint.

On another thread, what did Mr Batty say about the chassis on that car you're buying. I was concerned by the erosion on the wishbones - but it was probably just surface stuff - I'm trying to get a car with absolutely nothing to do on it (is that possible ??).

thx

Xen,

I covered 4000 miles in the 2 months when I got my Chimaera! If I spent 4 times as much as you on the road I find it acceptable to pay more.
