i.e, pushed right forward...anyone know if this is functional if wiring is added/modified. Just wondering whether that's a convenient switch for a fan over-ride if mated with an LED tell-tale?

I think it's for rear wash wipe - obviously only used for Cavaliers/Astra where the assembly came from.

Yep, I used to have an Astra and the flicked-forward position was for the rear wash-wipe!

Yes; there is the picture for rear wash-wipe on the stalk. it is entirely redundant. Wouldn't suggest using it for a fan over-ride. the best place for that is on the plastic steering wheel fairing at the bottom left.
