On a seriouse note, I think getting base out of a Chimaera will be a problem, will the amp fit under the seats or in the passengers footwell?

Amps/CD changer - well my CD changer is in the boot on top of the tank, this is fairly common. I think that some have fitted changers in the pocket behind the seats, but this may have been a minidisc changer (can't remember). I reckon you could also fit a small amp along side the changer on top of the tank - depends how much kit you intend to fit. If you need more space than that, be careful about where you fit it in the boot in order to make sure the roof will still go. Best of luck fitting a 12" sub, I can't see how that could fit, but there may be a way. I'm not going to enter into the why do you need it debate - your choice and not my business. I would however be interested in what you do eventually install, so please post your results.

Regards,

Steve

I picked up my Chim last night and will be doing a reasonable Hifi install in it this summer.
I am going to put an Alpine Changer, Illusion 10" sub and a Genesis 4 channel amp in a very discreet build behind the front seats - Not decided how it will look yet but it well be 100% stealth....
I'll keep you informed of how I get on...

Not sure there is enough space for a 12 - The 10 I am getting is very shallow and very light (neodymium magnet) and will fit in a small enclosure...

I wouldn't put a sub in the boot as the amount of sound deadending you'd need to stop it rattling the carto death would not be worth it....

My amp is held with velcro to the petrol tank material with long leads, so it can be moved for roof placement, the 12" sub box is a single ported design box that sits in the middle of the boot facing upwards, again on a long lead so you can remove and replace at a different angle when the roof is put in.CD player is in centre top of petrol tank with the rear top panel cut around (easy install looks good too) the rear panel has extra holes to allow bass to be fed into extra holes where rear speakers are mounted (like bass ports). Be warned you need about 1000 watt sub and 800watt amp to get some serious bass through!! used to have 600/400 and was'nt enuf. It all looks great if done well, you may need some sound deadening material to stop the rattles and push bass through. Hope this helps

discussed most of this in a previous thread
see:

12 inch free-air sub might be a bit ambitious in the back shelf without some major custom install work - I've seen 8inch and 10 inch work....

The above thread seems pretty comprehensive. I'd just add that my install has a 12CD changer plus two amps mounted on MDF above the petrol tank, behind two 7x10 Kenwoods. Boot fits in fine, I have a sheet of non-slip mat on the changer to stop scuffing.

Thanks for all your help everyone. I will have another long think about it before i get the jigsaw out! - The only reason i want to put my 12" sub in it is because you need a big speaker to get the low frequencies and sound QUALITY is what im after..... NOT BOOMING BASS!
I had all the equiptment in my BMW 325i Sport and i dont wanna go back to a poo sounding stereo!
I will let ya know how i get on.......
Thanks again for all your advice!

Cheers
Ross
