Having washed the car at the weekend, I got into it last night (Monday) only to hear a sloshing sound from inside the driver's door!

I found what appears to be a drain at the bottom of the door (just above the rubber strip). Water did come out of the drain when I moved the door around, but not in particularly large quantities and there still sounds like there is a considerable amount inside.

Anybody come across this before, the drain didn't appear to be blocked (although I didn't have much of a poke around).

This happens on my Chim too, only when I wash it as opposed to leaving it out in the rain though. My drive way is on a slope and I find it helps a little to have the car facing downhill! All of my drain holes are clear but the Tiv does need a good drive round the block to get rid of all the water. Sure it is not a problem, especially as the doors are plastic.
Hope this helps, safety in numbers and all...

After heavy rain I find a fair bit of water comes out of the drain hole, but only after the door is opened. The passenger door drain hole had been covered by the edge of the rubber seal/strip wotsit. Worth checking they are both clear. Alarming mutant goop came out of the passenger door. I've wondered about finding the lowest point in the body of the door and making an extra hole. Even thought the doot is plstic, can;'t imagine the humidity does the window motor, speaker, wiring any good.

Incidentally, I have a colleague who used to work at a TVR dealer. Apparantly there is a technical document from the TVR factory on this problem and how to deal with it (this was not told to me as a joke but as fact, BTW).

Problem: Water in the door / customer reports sloshing sound in door.
Solution: Check drain holes are clear. Drill extra drain holes if necessary.

I kid you not.

Thanks, nothing unusual then.

I'll have another poke around in the drain hole, but I don't fancy attacking the car with a drill, so I'll probably have to live with it.

I put three drain holes in my doors for the same problem.

When I looked closely the water can get lower than the drain holes!

If you try it be sure to have a depth control on the drill and to drill the inner skin! It works.

I too have the sloshing door - could you explain a bit further how to cure it.

Thanks,

Steve

Sorry to be a nerd, but before I turn my car into a swiss cheese, can anyone who knows advise me on what type/size of drill bit to use and at what speed?

get a 2" masonry bit and remember to put your drill on the 'high speed hammer' setting.

I'd try about 1/8th inch bit, As for what speed - make sure you are stationary!!
