Failure to start
Discussion
My Chimaera 500 failed to start today - after a bit of cranking I noticed hello! no fuel pump noise.
Called the RAC anyway but expected recovery. (how much for a fuel pump! )
Turned out to be a failed relay - cost of replacement using a multi-function relay £5
Big respect for RAC mechanics, the guy who came to me had changed batteries on TVRs and spent half an hour tracing the fault.
Old relay was a bit corroded from the regular dampness in the footwell so I'd advise carrying a spare relay 'cos there were about 3 or 4 the same. I think the serial no was LR105 or similar (Halfords I think)
Just come 165 miles in it - sh**e weather but back in 1 piece!
Any other recommendations for small items to carry 'just in case'!!

Wow. That's better than the AA bloke who hooked a fuse out of my Chim to shut up the alarm at 2am. When I looked at the fuse again in the morning, once I had woken up properly, I noticed that it had already blown ... so somehow I doubt pulling it out had made much of a difference .
Things to carry: Big screwdriver to take top off swirl pot. Piece of wire to short out otter switch. (And AA/RAC card and mobile phone, of course)
