tiny but annoying leak in boot - looking in, on left hand side in corner. managed to trace the source but the rubber seals all seem ok. then noticed that the gap between the boot hinge and pole that screws on to the underside of the panel is about 5mm greater on the (leaky) left side than it is on the right.
there is an alan key hole that i hope could adjust this but as i am new to it all wondered if this is the thing to do or if anyone else knows of this to happen ( the boot 'moving' i mean)

While I don't have a leak in my boot, my boot lid was proud of the hinges - until I read your post and thought I've been meaning to do this for ages, so I did 10 minutes ago.

It took 15 minutes to undo, put a washer in to effectively lower the boot and put it all together again. I did one side at a time and there was nothing to it. Good opportunity to clean the ali as well!

Not sure if the boot being a little high is your problem since there is a lip all the way around and water would have to jump the lip, pretty tall order unless it is really lashing it down or you drown the car when washing it..

I guess you're looking at the pole where it connects to the boot (2 screws?) rather then where it connects to the hinge (allen key).

When I got the car there was a washer on each screw between the pole and the boot lid, I took these out to have the same effect as what I did tonight but it didn't lower the boot enough and there was no further scope to lower at this point. The only way to lower the boot now was to put a washer at the point where the pole attaches to the hinge.

I guess in your case you're saying that the gap is not at the hinge, in which case is there a something that can be removed to reduce the gap? If not then you have to put a washer in at the hinge. Does that make sense?

Note, if you undo the two screws (not the allen nut at the hinge) it becomes a long winded job to line up again because the damper that opens the boot keeps pushing it out of line until the screws are tightened up.
