Hey, folkies.

I had the good (?) luck at 36000 miles for my '96 4.0l chimp to throw a con-rod out of the side of the engine, leaving a two inch hole, lots of bits inside the block, and a couple of streaks on the road and in my pants. The good luck is that the waranty people capitulated and picked up the £3000 bill.

The car now has 39000 miles on it (3000miles on the new lower half of the block and new valves) and is swee-eet. There's actually a slightly more modern sound to the engine - don't ask what or how!

Anyway, how do you all reckon this would matter to a private or trade sale (for a 500 griff, or dreams of a tuscan)?

Be kind, but fair.

Rob.

Oh, what about chipping? Good or bad?

Can't see it mattering - if you show the next possible buyer all the bills for work, etc.

I'd say it's a positive selling point (again, providing you've got the paperwork).

I just bought a 400SE which had had and engine replacement - with a 4.6l lump

It cost me over the odds for a 400, but with 5K's worth of bills for the engine mods alone, it was well worth it!
