I've changed the handbrake, the switches and the stalks to the alloy variety, but I really would like to get rid of the crappy British Leyland (or similar pedigree) air vents.

(The main cockpit ones, not the windsreen vents - I personally think they're better in black plastic as they don't reflect in the windscreen ...)

Does anyone know whether any company makes alloy air vents? Has anybody got any for sale?

Try Leven Technology's web site, link from the TVRCC site. They usually have a good answer.

...and could you let us know what you find out please? I've been looking for some too. Even considered spraying them but thought the finish would look dubious and would get tatty very quickly (probably understated!).

Could be a market here for any skilled machinists!

We have been developing these air vents for a while now (not as easy as you think!) and expect to have samples this month. These being ok it will take about a month to get production quanties ready. The vents in the Chimaera are a different shape to those in the Griffith, which will be first followed quickly by the Chimaera. When available details will be posted on our website.

Just so you know, these vents are the same as the ones in a Fwawi 308! Maybe they come from a Fiat or something else Italian.

LevenTech, let us all know when they're ready!

Here's hoping that these are sexy alloy ball vents .. and the Chimaera ones aren't too far behind.

Seeing as the hole in the dash is oblong shaped I somehow doubt it...

Stupid question really, but will they rely on a load of gaffer tape to (a) attach the air pipe and (b) jam the buggers in the hole?

Go on .... you're kidding, right?

Actually, was thinking along the lines of the Cerbera type ball vents, mounted in an OBLONG ALLOY PLATE! Maybe with a dash of brass ring.

I had noticed that they were kind of rectangular. Also noticed that two of 'em are upside down. That'd be pretty hard to do with a ball vent!

How about... two ball vents mounted side by side in a rectangular place? That way you can have air on the side window, and warm hands at the same time...

Radical, I know...

How about a ball air wotsit on the left and an integrated alloy cupholder with blue neon light on a stalk on the right? Just a thought...

Don't be daft lad, your coffee would get cold in front of the air vent.

Actually, that's not a bad idea Marshy. You could warm your cockles and your hands at the same time!

Actually, though I hate to admit it, I'd kill for a sensible cup holder. I must be getting all american. However, with so many early morning motorway commutes at the moment, somewhere to safely stash a coffee would be welcome.

I know I could get in gyp for admitting this, but I think the odd swig is less dangerous (i.e. doesn't require eyes off road) than trying to light a ciggie, which still seems to be legally kosher as far as I can tell.
