Fitting 17 inch alloys
Discussion
i ordered some 17 inch aceline RL 7's from peninsula back in october but raceline have moved production to italy and its taking ages to start up again.
I used peninsula as they know the offsets ect and the tyre sizes..
i spoke to Compomotive yesterday and their MO 5 spokes are available in 7 or 8*17 and they have all the offset data as they supplied a load to TVR Malaysia.
I think the basic options are Raceline, compomotive or maybe TSW although im not sure about the strangth of the TSw the other two are race wheels so they will take a pounding...
I think Moore Racing can Do the TSW wheels and they will also have the ofsets ect...
when i calculated the prices on mine i think i could save a tenner by buying the wheels and tyres separatly but not worth the hastle and there is no comback if i speced the wrong offsets...
have fun.
there is another thread on either here or griff whish another chaps offset calculations

Go onto used stock at www.tmstvr.co.uk under Chimaera and have a look at the Chimaera in white, they are 17/18 inches and make the car - Ring Barry on 01664 481065 to get some more infor on Monday - there is also a Griffith with 17 Inches on their under (guess what) used Griffiths with some interesting alloys on it
I think they all look great. You have to make sure all your offsets are right and the tyres will not scrub on heavy load or full lock. The Chimaera has standard everything on them, the Griffith has differnt hubs on it to take five studs.

Just so there is no confusion, this is not so. The Griffith and Chimaera have exactly the same fitting for the wheels, i.e. Ford pattern 4 stud fixings with a 108mm p.c.d. - There is one Griffith around with 5 stud pattern hubs/wheels which is run by Neill Anderson, TVR chassis engineer and which he used as a test bed for the Cerbera suspension. You may have seen pic's of this. R...
yup have seen said griff, looks good, but the chim shape is more akin to the cerb, so thought that might suit them... , just wondering if the wheels might be a touch big on the chim, dont really get along with the 500 style wheels that they fit...maybe the origial 5 spoke is the way forward...??
Well the front of a Cerb and the front of a Chim, latest incarnations of both aside, are pretty much identical. The doors on the Cerb are longer and I am not sure about the back. So thats probably your best starting point for comparison.
I have just read that TSW make the Tarantula alloys, has anyone enquired whether they do these in a 4 point fitting or if they would manufacture a set with the Ford (Chim/Griff) offsets?
Matt.

I think you can get them 17x7's and 18x8's
This thread covers a lot of things like fitment and prices, hope its a little more informative than me!

I tried very hard to get a set of the spider wheels (18") for my 500 Chim. A very helpful dealrship got as far as talking to the MD of the company that manufactures them. They have (allegedly) been persuaded quite strongly by Mr Wheeler NOT to supply these wheels with 4 stud fitment. I.e. if they turn up on a Griff/Chimaera anywhere, they will lose the contract to supply.
I have seen a couple of cars with Kahn 17" wheels, and they do list TVR on their website www.kahndesign.com

Thats ar$e! Mr Wheeler really should be reminded that without his customers his decisions dont count for sh!t.
On the basis of that fact alone its almost worth buying a wheel, sending it to Taiwan with a letter attached saying 'Make four of these with 4 stud fitments and this offset' and running round with perfectly good copies on your Chim.
I'm astonished by that.

There are a few Griffiths with RL7 wheels (e.g mine ! - see pic on my profile) and also Apache's. Mine are 8" width not 7". To be honset I think you should talk to the manufactures as they casy a batch and then machine the stud holes, centre bore and offsets. You probabaly can get 7.5" width as well. There is tons of stuff about mine on Chimeara/Big Wheels thread. Cheers Rich...
Just spoken to race line and its looking like end of march until the rl7's will be produced !!!!!
unless they bring the dies back to the uk for a special batch...
Somthing to do with the dies and the machines needing to be compatable !!!!
G
maybe Compomotive Mo's...
I agree the 4 ltr wheels are much nicer than the 500
