Was it a late model Chim? If so, they didnt have them from manufacture, all you get when you buy a new one these days is two cans of latex foam that will allow you to limp home.

As for the price of spare wheels I reckon you are looking at about £100 for the wheel and about £175-£200 for the tyre.

thanks for the speeedy response,
it was a '99 'T' so I guess thats the answer. I'll still use it as a bargaining point though as I don't think the seller uses P/H - it was'nt advertised here anyway.

Baldy,

The general concenus is ditch the spare tire and go with tyre weld. Steve 'TVR Bible' Heath recommends it, but also, if you've ever driven on a space save wheel you'll know why tyre weld is the way forward!!

From what I understand tyre-weld products make the tyre unrepairable once used. Please bear this in mind.

Myth put about by Quick Fit fitters that don't want to get their overalls dirty. They may charge extra for repairing it but that should be all.

A more important issue is whether a TVR tyre should be repaired at all. As a tyre is a fairly critical component and really gets abused when a TVR is wellied, I think replacement is the only way forward. In which case the tyre weld is to get you home or to somewhere where the tyre can be replaced.

It is not advisable to repair a tyre once tyre weld has been used as the chemical agent in the foam damages the butyl liner (the coating they put in the inside the tyre to make it non pourous) Repair it if you like but be aware it may let you down later.
