The crankshaft pulley sheared off my Chim 500 just before Christmas which I understand is a common problem. However, I live near Ilford Essex and all the decent TVR dealers are on the other side of London. The AA man recommended a local mechanic. The local guy has charged me £450 for parts and £650 for labour which I thought was very expensive. Having looked back through gassing station I saw that Wilkes had a similar problem fixed by Mole Valley for £300. I am sure there is a lesson to be learnt here somewhere!

What's this all about then? Haven't read anything on this before on here so how common is it and is it just a 500 prob?

It is a common problem in as much that all TVRs that have had a pulley sheer off have had a problem with a pulley sheering off...

Probably yet another urban myth... I've never heard of masses of TVRs minus their pulleys before.

£1100 seems severely extreme. I can understand it for the parts, but £650 for labour, even at main dealer rates is 13 hours!!!
