Hi,
Another quick question from a soon to be Chimaera owner - I see a lot of ads mention 'Facelift model' - What is meant by this and when did these occur? I know that newer ones have different rear lights and I believe some didn't have the electric door release..
Is there anywhere I can find out all this info?

Cheers again

not specifically sure, but i think the facelift model surfaced in the P plate. The earlier versions from K-N had the front reg-plate mounted differently and had silver push buttons for the door-opening, as well as the 'older' style rear light cluster.

hope this helps

When they say facelift model they usually mean the model from Aug '96 onwards - P reg'd. At this time the front grille was changed for a Cerbera style gappy bit. They also made a few other changes around this time such as a very slightly modded shape to the bonnet (mainly the trailing edge I think for cooling) and started using the under door mirror buttons.

Other changes have been phased in since then - new rear light clusters, revised boot hinges, changed internal light/mirror/fan switches/rear bumper and boot overhang/rear plate lighting. The only mod to physically (as opposed to aesthetically) make the car any better IMO is better wipers around 2000 W reg'd (I think).

Buy whichever you like best - they all work well. The only possible exception is the earliest (K/L) door locking/button combinations which could be a little naughty sometimes.

Of course there were mechanical changes in 94/95 too ... that's another emails worth though.

In general the facelift model (96 0n)has the modified body with different grill, bonnet, rear bumper and longer boot lid. they also moved the door locks to the mirrors and the dash swithches ( although some of them have the door buttons in the rear wing, but keyless and a half early half late dash!!! depends what they had at the time)

the more important changes
are the move the the T5 gearbox, the serpentine engine( possibly found on the last of the pre face lift models)
i also belive this is when then moved to the griff 500 chassis and brakes.

the facelift model in theory should also have rear roll cage mounts on the chassis.

Later mods include, moving spare to middle of boot, rear lights, boot hinges moulding around the fuel filler in 99/00 and finally the perspex front light covers, new seats, more dash mods and modified suspension for the current model..

well thats my understanding any way....

the most obvious difference is the front grill...

See the thread 'Changes, what changes' in the Chimaera section for a bit more info (a bit confusing though but illuminating) about exactly this topic!
