I am thinking of fitting a Mark Adams chip to my 1993 4.0L Chim.
At the moment when I start my car in the morning I sometimes get a ticking noise from the engine, it is not a leaking manifold gasket or stones in the fan belt it sounds like the lifters are sticking a bit, so I would like to fit a new camshaft and lifters before fitting the new chip.
Can you let me know the best camshaft to fit that will go with the Mark Adams chip, and will the increase in performance be noticable.

It don't work like that. Mark Adams will tailor the chip to the car on a rolling road. If you then change the engine, it will need a rechip to get the best out of it. So get the engine sorted and then chip it.

Yes that is what I said, I was asking how good is the chip and what camshaft is the best to fit.
The unfortunate thing is I am in Scotland and to get it to Mark is not very easy.
I spoke to mMark and he said that if I send my whole ECU down he will do what he can, and give me a range of chips to try.
Cheers

From your email it read like "I want a Mark Adam chip... what cam shaft is best for this..." hence the other way round.
As for choice what do you want to do? More power? Stay standard? Go racing?
I have had the Markl adams treatment done on several of my cars but with other mods like bigger plenums, air flow etc and have been very pleased. Does count as a car mod so don't forget to check with the insurers. If you want the car to stay standard, 218 seems to be the favoured cam at the moment.

I bought a "Mark Adams chip" second hand (from Pistonheads classifieds). It's actually made by a company called Tornado but Mark is recognised as an expert in setting it up for the Rover engine.
The previous owner had it taylored to his 4.0 Chimaera by Mark so I just stuck it straight in mine without change. I wanted to remove some of the hesitation that a lot of Chimaeras seem to have around 3000rpm and remove some low speed jerkiness. I must admit I have not checked other components yet to see if they are the cause of the problems (throttle pot, mass air flow meter, plugs, leads etc.), I just wanted to put it in the car and see what effect it had.
The result - according to the previous owner's dyno results showed a gain of about 5% power. This is a small amount so it is not really noticeable, but I have noticed:
Higher rev limit (don't know how high, but >6000rpm)
Higher fuel consumption (from a consistent 23mpg to an erratic 21mpg, but I also swapped to Optimax at the same time)
Exhaust boom at 2200rpm is now 2000-2800rpm.
Longer cranking (to build up oil pressure before firing)
Jerkiness was at low speed was initially worse but seems better now (either due to the Optimax or to the ECU learning as time goes on).
Next step is to check the sensors and do a back to back check on a dyno and get the rev limit set a bit lower.
By the way, my insurance was unaffected by the change.
