I get a funny sort of scraping sound coming from the back of my car when I either reverse or drive forward slowly - almost as if the tyres are catching on something (eg. As I increase the speed the noise increases in frequency - click.....click......click...click..click.click.click sort of thing) but though there's little clearance on my new tyres they are the reccommended size. Could it be something completely different? It can only be heard when I go really slowly and seems to clear up once the car has warmed up and been driven a bit. Any ideas what it could be?

Have you got new wheels?
If so, or even if not, it sounds like your brake calipers are just catching the inner wheel, this can happen especially in reverse, have a close look at them and see if they are very close, the remedy to this is wheel spacers.

Jack the car up, spin each wheel by hand, if it is repeatable you should have no trouble tracking down the source of the noise. BTW there should be ample clearance between the calipers and the wheel, if you start using wheel spacers you risk the tyre fouling on the bodywork, also reduce the life of wheel bearings etc.

My Chimaera has started doing this recently. Does it happen only whilst manouvering? Could you post what you find out, please?

I had exactly the same problem with mine...

Someone had stolen two wheel nuts on one of my rear wheels, and as I moved forward, the wheel was obviously slipping on the bolts slightly.

It was the last thing I checked!
