Am I Gonna Be Disappointed??

With all the talk on this site of engine mods with people trying to squeak an extra few bhp (why?) and people upgrading exhaust systems from standard to sports, not to mention brake mods, etc when I get my Chim in 2002 am I going to be disappointed with the standard car?
By that I mean:
a) They go bloody quick
b) They sound bloody marvellous
c) They make you smile
And that's all I want!!
I don't want to drive at 95 everywhere ... is that bad?!
Hope I'm not going to get it after the sacrifices I'm going to make/am making (no kids, Florida will have to wait enother year) and it's going to sit in the garage because I'm not satisfied with it, or do you (when you've at last got the car) immediately look for ways of improving/ upgrading/amending it – cos some of the mods on the newer cars (IMO) are awful and no improvement.

There's a simple answer to this. No, you won't be disappointed.
The only disappointment I've heard from Chimaera owners is those that have moved up from the S series. It takes a while to get used to the slightly less communicative chassis but after a while the different feel is just as (or more?) satisfying.

Tips for avoiding dissipointment:
1. If you have a 4 litre don't drive a five.
2. If you have a 5 litre, don't drive a Cerbera.
3. If you have a Cerbera, don't drive a Tuscan.
4. If you have a Tuscan, don't drive a Tamora.
You have been warned.

"TVR owner one day" - that was me in July this year then I bought a Chimaera 450 and love it - has been more than I imagined and its so good have now bought a cerbera as well (for everyday use you understand). Go for it and get one asap - look forward to seeing you post "TVR owner now!!"

As far as I’m concerned it’s all relative, after on public roads in this Country how many times are you going to be able to hit 160 mph or take a corner at 60–70 mph?
I got my Chim in May last year and while I’m unable to drive it every day, it gets out practically every w/end no matter what the weather.
It’s BLOODY LOVELY! So much so I hope to buy a brand new one in the next 18 months.
So forget all the other bull just enjoy it.

Just do it! To look at what Steve says another way, go for the best that you can at the time and know that it can be even better in the future (when you get your next TVR). That said I still think my 5 Litre Chim is unbelievable and you don't miss what you haven't got. Despite there being a number of newer designs and Chimaeras being the most common of TVRs she still attracts many admiring glances and compliments. I'm just gonna settle back and learn this car first before I worry about upgrade, upgrade, upgrade. Most of the time my wife and I use her for touring rather than low flying and I don't think I'll ever tire of the V8 thrum. (Dartford tunnel is excellent value at only £1 a go) One of the attractions to me is that I enjoy driving her at any speed and don't feel the need to prove anything or hurtle around everywhere. I can't deny that the odd moment of what can only be described as urgent acceleration is great fun too. Bottom line get one and enjoy whatever it may be.

It is awesome.
You know that insane grin you get on a rollercoaster as it accelerates. I still get that.
I haven't tired of the performance or the noise. It hasn't cost mea fortune and I use it everyday (21,000 miles in a year).
One of the great things about the car, though is that it can be adjusted and modified to suit personal taste. A lot of us go to the various trackdays. That's when people hanker for more grunt.

My 4ltr chim is modified, why because i can!!!! no other reason, It didnt need it but it does now go better, stop quicker ,handle better and sound louder.
The next step is a programable ECu and then a supercharger... I treat it more as a hobby than a car, even if i do drive it every day...

You’ll love it, they don’t NEED any modifications at all. I bought mine a few months ago and it is still standard. Perhaps just adding a little to the sound, power, handling etc. may make you enjoy it even more - if it does, why not? Whatever floats your boat. The "trouble" is that the cars lend themselves to upgrading and because we luv ‘em it feels a bit like spending money on an offspring - I wouldn’t dream of upgrading my everyday car even though I could write a list of worthwhile improvements.

Will have to use the Hatfield Tunnel on the A1M
